What does a typical day look like for someone in an Entry Level Devops role?

A typical day for an Entry Level Devops professional often includes monitoring infrastructure, managing deployments, and automating routine tasks under the guidance of more experienced team members. You'll collaborate closely with software developers and IT operations staff to ensure systems run smoothly and resolve any basic technical issues as they arise. Many tasks involve using tools to manage code repositories, update documentation, and contribute to continuous integration pipelines. Over time, you may be given more complex projects, which helps accelerate learning and professional growth within the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Entry Level Devops position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Devops, you need a foundational understanding of Linux systems, basic scripting (such as Bash or Python), and experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with CI/CD tools (like Jenkins or GitHub Actions), version control (Git), and infrastructure as code (Terraform or Ansible) is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, teamwork, and effective communication will help you collaborate across technical and non-technical teams. These capabilities are vital for efficiently supporting automated deployments, troubleshooting issues, and enabling seamless software delivery processes.

Is DevOps an entry level job?

DevOps is typically considered an intermediate to advanced role that requires experience with automation, scripting, and tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines. Entry-level DevOps positions may exist but often require foundational knowledge in software development and system administration, along with relevant certifications or training. Most employers expect candidates to have some prior experience or technical skills before stepping into a DevOps role.

Is DevOps dead due to AI?

DevOps professionals continue to be in demand as AI tools automate certain tasks but do not replace the need for skills in automation, scripting, and infrastructure management. AI enhances DevOps workflows by improving efficiency, but the role still requires expertise in tools like Jenkins, Docker, and cloud platforms. Continuous learning and adapting to new technologies remain essential for entry-level DevOps roles.

Can you get a DevOps job with no experience?

Entry-level DevOps positions often require some knowledge of scripting, automation tools, and cloud platforms, but many employers are willing to consider candidates with limited experience if they demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn. Gaining certifications like AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or learning tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Jenkins can improve chances. Internships, personal projects, or contributing to open-source can also help build relevant skills for entry-level roles.
