As a member of Responsible Distribution Canda, we are committed to high standards of operating in a safe and secure manner which protects people and the environment. We’re now looking for a Process Engineer to join us at our Elmira Site to monitor daily plant operations of a sulfuric acid, sodium bisulphite manufacturing and a 960 KW steam co-gen facility by maintaining our computer data acquisition system. This is a continuous operation so you will share the responsibility to be on call during non-work hours. You will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality teams to drive improvements, support compliance, and ensure production meets customer and regulatory expectations. Operational & Technical Leadership * Provide technical leadership, coaching, and direction across operations and maintenance teams to support daily plant operations and long‑term performance improvement. * Lead and execute process improvement initiatives, troubleshooting activities, and operational projects that enhance safety, reliability, and product quality. * Participate in and guide cross‑functional teams to strengthen plant capabilities, improve workflows, and elevate technical decision‑making. Process Safety, Risk Management & Compliance * Conduct risk assessments, support Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, and ensure all work is aligned with OHSA requirements and corporate safety standards. * Maintain regulatory compliance by submitting accurate environmental, production, and emissions data to the Ministry of the Environment (e.g., NPRI, Stats Canada, effluent reports), ensuring adherence to all applicable Acts and Regulations. * Participate in and contribute to Responsible Care® initiatives such as Emergency Response Plans, Spill Response Plans, and ongoing safety and environmental stewardship programs. Automation, Controls & Data Systems * Manage and maintain the plant’s Honeywell PLC system, including scheduling maintenance, ensuring programming accuracy, and tracking critical spares and inventory. * Support digital tools, plant historians, and data systems to monitor production performance, optimize unit operations, and assist in root-cause investigations. Production Planning & Quality Assurance * Oversee raw material and finished product planning to ensure efficient production scheduling and inventory management. * Support ISO 9001 and RC 14001 management systems by maintaining documentation, conducting internal audits, and ensuring procedural compliance. * Perform field sampling, testing, and quality reviews; issue Certificates of Analysis (CoAs), and provide technical support to customers as required. Maintenance, Reliability & Equipment Stewardship * Identify critical equipment and develop strategies for their monitoring, maintenance, and risk mitigation. * Establish and maintain an updated catalog of critical spare parts, and ensure this information is integrated into the plant’s maintenance management system. * Draft and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and support training to ensure operational consistency and safe equipment operation. After-Hours Support * Participate in the rotational 24‑hour on-call schedule (one week at a time) to provide technical assistance and ensure continuous plant reliability.
