Description
This seasonal internship will be based in the Engineering division of our Public Works Department.
This internship with include work such as: assist with pavement ratings, traffic count, reconstruction projects and notifications to project residents.
Encourages and promotes interest in all areas of local government employment, concentrating on local government department activities for learning opportunities and practical experience. Intern performs various responsibilities for department. Received administrative supervision from the department head or assigned supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The intern also performs job-related responsibilities that may be scheduled or assigned which support the timely and effective delivery of governmental services. These responsibilities may include:
  • Assist with annual pavement ratings throughout the City.
  • Assist with annual traffic count program.
  • Assist with inspections of street and utility reconstruction projects.
  • Assist with measurement and calculation of payment quantities for street projects.
  • Creation and distribution of construction notifications to project residents.
  • Participation in other experiences and duties related to the department.

Working Conditions
  • Meets with the department head and/or assigned supervisor to determine capabilities and to outline responsibilities, including a work schedule.
  • Develops the requisite skills and abilities to perform assigned responsibilities.
  • Develops and maintains a good working knowledge of city functions related to department.
  • Performs assigned responsibilities as scheduled and outlined.
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship with city staff, residents, and customers.

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications
  • Ideally the candidate is pursuing advanced education in the field of civil engineering
  • Must have a valid drivers license
