Job Description

Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role
Join our Passenger Experiences team and help shape the future of GM's connected vehicles. As an Entry Level Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of applications for GM's in-vehicle Infotainment system. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, you will execute software tasks across the full software development lifecycle, including planning, requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, defect resolution, and production release.
You will work in a highly collaborative, cross-functional, and Agile environment, playing a key role in delivering best-in-class, fully connected vehicle applications to our customers while developing your own technical and professional skills.
What You'll Do
  • Assist in the design and development of HMI applications for GM's in-vehicle Infotainment system.
  • Implement efficient, well-structured, optimized, and clearly documented source code with guidance from senior team members.
  • Participate in architecture, requirements, design, code, and test case reviews to learn best practices and contribute feedback.
  • Create and maintain clear and complete documentation in alignment with GM's software development process.
  • Support cross-functional teams in diagnosing and resolving issues related to software integration within vehicle systems.
  • Work closely with team members in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Participate in Agile development processes, including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-Ups, and Retrospectives.
  • Adhere to GM's software development processes, prioritizing quality and ensuring that implemented solutions conform to architectural requirements.

Required Qualifications:
  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's or Masters degree in one of the following areas: Computer Engineering and Computer Science
  • Must be graduating between December 2025 and August 2026
  • Must have academic, project, co-op, or internship experience with Android or mobile application development
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Experience building media player or multimedia applications (internship, co-op, research, or major project).
  • Solid programming and debugging skills in **Kotlin and/or Java** demonstrated through coursework, projects, research, or internships
  • Android multi-threaded development experience.
  • Hands-on CI/CD and quality tools (e.g., Jenkins, Parasoft).
  • Contributions to open-source or team-based software projects.
  • Strong grasp of OOP, design patterns, and testable architectures (e.g., JUnit, Espresso, TDD, MVVM, Clean Architecture).
  • Familiarity with Git-based source control (GitHub, Gerrit, Bitbucket).
  • Understanding of Scrum/Agile development practices.

Compensation:
The compensation is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.
