Position Summary:
The Entry Level Programmer is responsible for assisting in the development, maintenance, and support of internal business applications and tools used across the organization. This position writes and troubleshoots code, works with databases and business data, resolves software issues, and helps improve existing systems. The Entry Level Programmer works closely with experienced team members and end users to understand business needs, develop practical solutions, and ensure applications effectively support day-to-day operations. This position is designed for an individual beginning a programming career who demonstrates strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to follow through on assigned tasks.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Software Development & Application Support
  • Assist with the development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of software applications that support the organization's internal business operations.
  • Develop and enhance features for web-based applications using established software development frameworks and technologies.
  • Write clear, maintainable, and secure code in accordance with established requirements, standards, and guidance.
  • Assist with troubleshooting application issues, resolving defects, and improving existing software functionality.

2. Technical Development & Programming
  • Develop proficiency with technologies used by the organization, including TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, PostgreSQL (Supabase), Docker, Git, GitHub, and other approved development tools.
  • Write and maintain database queries and assist with database schemas and related data structures.
  • Follow established software development practices, coding standards, documentation requirements, and security guidelines.
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback from more experienced team members to improve code quality and technical skills.

3. Software Lifecycle & Project Execution
  • Complete assigned development tasks, including coding, testing, debugging, documentation, deployment support, and ongoing application maintenance.
  • Assist with troubleshooting software issues and identifying appropriate solutions under the guidance of more experienced team members.
  • Track assigned tasks and communicate progress, questions, issues, and potential delays to appropriate team members.
  • Collaborate with other developers, business users, and team members to complete assigned work accurately and within established timelines.

4. ERP Systems & Integration
  • Develop a working knowledge of the company's ERP system, business processes, applications, and data structures.
  • Assist with the development, maintenance, and integration of ERP-related applications and data with internally developed software and third-party systems.
  • Work with team members and business users to understand how software applications support day-to-day business operations.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to automate routine processes, improve application functionality, and enhance operational efficiency.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
โ€ข An associate's or bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or something close to it; or self-taught skills you can demonstrate - a GitHub profile, personal projects, freelance work, coursework you finished on your own, a game you built, or a script that automates something at your current job.
โ€ข Demonstrated ability to write functional code in at least one programming language.
โ€ข Ability to read, interpret, and understand code developed by others.
โ€ข Ability to communicate technical issues and concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
โ€ข Demonstrated accountability and follow-through in identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving assigned issues.
โ€ข Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
โ€ข Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies, including AI-assisted software development tools.
โ€ข Reliable attendance and ability to work on-site at the Portage, Indiana location.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with SQL and relational database systems.
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.
  • Working knowledge of command-line environments and basic Linux operations.

Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to analyze technical information and business requirements. Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office environment in with typical noise levels and frequent computer use. Occasional after-hours work may be required to support software deployments, system maintenance, or production issues.
