Stormwater Design Engineer
Muller Engineering is a Colorado-based leading civil engineering firm dedicated to designing sustainable solutions that strengthen and shape the communities we serve. Engineers at Muller Engineering have the opportunity to work on complex, impactful, multidisciplinary projects that support state and local agencies across Colorado.
We are seeking an entry-level Design Engineer to join our Stormwater team who's driven to learn and become an essential part of the impactful projects Muller Engineering designs to create better places together. In this role, you will help deliver meaningful stormwater improvement projects that enhance resilience, protect the environment, and support growing communities. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team committed to technical excellence, innovation, and practical solutions.
Muller Engineering is based in Lakewood, Colorado, offering a hybrid work schedule that supports in-person collaboration and flexibility. We welcome applicants from across the continental United States who are open to relocating to the Denver metro area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop innovative stormwater improvement designs, including urban stream restoration, culverts, storm drains, detention facilities, water quality features, and erosion and sediment control planning.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, geomorphic evaluations, floodplain studies, and scour analyses to ensure robust project outcomes.
  • Assist in obtaining environmental permits and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
  • Prepare construction drawings using Civil 3D, create construction quantities and technical reports, and guide the work of CAD technicians.
  • Conduct construction field observation and provide construction support.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a similar engineering discipline from an accredited college or university. A master's degree is a plus.
  • 0-3 years of experience with a focus on the design of stormwater improvements.
  • Exposure to hydrologic and hydraulic computer programs, including HEC-RAS, SRH2D/SMS, CUHP, SWMM, and culvert/open channel design tools, as well as utilization of MHFD criteria, is desired.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred, and experience with MicroStation/ORD is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively convey technical information and collaborate within a team.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated professional with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to navigate formulas, equations, and complex spreadsheets.

Required License or Certification:
  • Engineer Intern (EI) certification in Colorado or another state preferred.

Salary Range: $75,000/year - $92,000/year, dependent on individual education, experience, and qualifications.
