Project Engineer - Traffic Engineering Department
BRUDIS & ASSOCIATES, INC. (BAI) is a multidiscipline engineering firm providing consulting services to public and private sector clients in the Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia regions. Since 1992, BAI has provided comprehensive, innovative and effective solutions to our clients' transportation and infrastructure needs.
Job Summary
Brudis & Associates, Inc. (BAI) is actively seeking a Project Engineer in our Traffic Engineering Department for immediate employment in our Columbia, Maryland office.
The qualified candidate will work under the direction of the project manager and will be the lead designer on a project within the appropriate discipline. The individual shall demonstrate an ability to collaboratively work with a group (or independently) on a wide-range of small or large scale multi-discipline projects for state, county, or local jurisdictions.
The position requires analytical thinking, adaptive and independent problem solving, creativity, innovation, and ability to utilize design engineers to complete task assignments. The qualified candidate shall be dependable, open-minded, focused, and attentive to details including: project schedules, budgets, and design quality.
Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities include acting as lead designer for project development including but not limited to: traffic studies and design, ITS planning and design, traffic signal design, maintenance of traffic, detours, signing & pavement markings, traffic modeling, and analysis for traffic improvements involving accidents, pedestrians, capacity, signal warrant studies, MOTAA, etc.
  • Work independently and as a team leader to complete smaller projects or portions of larger projects
  • Work on traffic engineering design/analysis for transportation improvement projects
  • Use advanced knowledge of engineering software, such as MicroStation
  • Prepare task assignment proposals (scope and man-hour estimates)
  • Supervision of between 2-3 junior design engineers/technicians

Qualifications and Skills
  • BSCE in Civil Engineering or appropriate discipline
  • Minimum six (6) years of design experience in appropriate discipline
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in applicable jurisdiction (or ability to apply for reciprocity)
  • Experience working on DOT/DPW projects for state, county, city, or local municipalities.
  • Previous coursework or training in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, Geometric Design, Traffic Signal Systems, Urban Transit Planning, or related subjects.
  • Proficient in the following software: Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, Corsim, SIDRA, HCS, Visum, TransCAD, Cube, ISATe, IHSDM, ArcGIS
  • Strong background in reference and application of Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Highway Safety Manual (HSM), and Trip Generation Manual (TGM)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to provide guidance and share technical knowledge with entry-level engineers
  • Ability to work well within a project team by building relationships and teamwork
