Job description

Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

Are you a 2027 graduate? VHB’s Raleigh, NC team is seeking an entry-level Transportation/Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Systems group. The selected candidate will work with a team of traffic engineers and highway safety specialists on a variety of public, private, and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including municipal, state agencies, higher education, federal lands, and aviation.

Our ideal candidate has an interest in the practice of traffic and transportation engineering and is eager to apply practical solutions to real world problems for our clients. Our ideal candidate is open to on-the-job training on a wide variety of traffic operations and capacity evaluation projects including intersections, roadways, and interchanges; traffic and transportation studies for land development projects; intersection and roadway improvement design; traffic management and signal timing; multimodal and safety assessment; school traffic studies; travel demand forecasts; and access management and corridor planning. This position includes developing and enhancing a diverse set of skills on traffic operations, transportation design, and/or transportation planning projects throughout North Carolina and Mid-Atlantic region.

Responsibilities

  • Working within a team of professionals in developing traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of transportation projects
  • Performing intersection and corridor operational analyses using Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, Sidra, and other analysis tools
  • Analyzing, developing, and evaluating of traffic improvements
  • Developing conceptual intersection/roadway improvement design and traffic signal design plans in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Developing traffic management and signal timing plans
  • Preparing written documents, summarizing data and analysis, and assembling reports to convey findings and recommendations
  • Collecting and tabulating traffic data
  • Conducting field traffic safety assessments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 0 to 1 years of transportation experience, preferably related to traffic or safety
  • Experience with Synchro/SimTraffic, Sidra, VISSIM, TransModeler and/or other capacity software a plus
  • Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation and/or other planning/design/data software a plus
  • EIT Designation is a plus

The full-time annual base salary range for this position,located in North Carolina, is $76,000 to $79,000. The basesalary offered will bedeterminedbased on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factorspermittedby law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only.Additionalcompensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.

Annual base salary is onecomponentof VHB’s Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
