Associate Data Center Administrator
City: West Lafayette IN
Job Description:
Job Summary
This role is an entry-level professional contributor who will participate in the maintenance and day-to-day objectives of the Data Center computing environment across the Purdue system. Working with management and team lead, this position will assist in Data Center operations, help meet objectives, undertake less complex projects and tasks, and assist with monitoring and control of centralized computing services. This will include coordinating equipment installation, physical installation and cabling of data center equipment, and assisting with the operating/monitoring/maintaining/responding to abnormal conditions in facilities systems. This position will also help perform preventative maintenance and repairs on general facilities equipment under direct supervision.
This role will assist with any after-hours issues or emergencies, will help ensure adequate HVAC, power, and network connectivity to maintain required resources in support of IT infrastructure. Position will participate in scheduled on-call and nonscheduled call back as necessary.
The PSC Data Center environment consists of sites across all of Purdue's campuses, including PWL (West Lafayette), PNW (Hammond, Westville), PFW (Ft. Wayne), PIN (Indianapolis). Travel between these campuses to perform activity will be considered a normal job function and will be required of this position.
What We're Looking For
Education and Experience Required:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a related field
  • One (1) year of experience in a Data Center Operations, Networking, or other mission-critical environment required
  • Experience with enterprise and research class computing hardware and software and/or experience with construction projects, working with contractors, vendors, consultants, etc. a plus

Skills Required:
  • Basic knowledge of data communications including fiber optics, ethernet, InfiniBand, WANs, VLANs, and IP networks desirable
  • Basic knowledge of data center infrastructure
  • Ability to:
    • develop and maintain working relationships with peers, vendors, technical resources and manufacturers
    • work independently with instruction
  • Comfortable in cooperating with a wide variety of staff, students, contractors, and visitors
  • Must possess good organizational and communications skills
