JOB SUMMARY

This is a part-time, entry-level position working 20 hours or less per week. The IT Data Analyst I supports the collection, organization, and analysis of data and assists in developing reports, dashboards, and visualizations that support decision-making across the City. Working under the direction of the Enterprise and Data Manager and alongside senior analytics staff, the position performs foundational data tasks with guidance.

The role is well suited to an early-career analyst building experience in data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence. It emphasizes learning established tools and processes, producing accurate routine and ad-hoc reporting, and following the City's data governance and quality practices rather than defining them.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in collecting, cleaning, and validating datasets from multiple sources to support data accuracy and integrity.
  • Helps analyze data to identify basic trends and patterns under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Assists in building and maintaining dashboards, reports, and data visualizations for business users.
  • Runs, refreshes, and updates existing reports, and produces routine and ad-hoc analyses as requested.
  • Helps translate business requirements into simple reporting solutions and communicates findings clearly to non-technical users.
  • Supports cross-functional teams (IT, Finance, Comms, Comm Dev, and others) in gathering data and reporting requirements.
  • Assists in monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and in maintaining routine and automated reporting processes.
  • Follows established data governance, privacy, and security policies and procedures.
  • Assists senior analytics staff with data-management and data-quality tasks.
  • Performs other related tasks and duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Enrollment in or completion of coursework, a certificate, or a degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Business, or a related field.
  • Zero to one (0-1) years of experience in a data, analytics, reporting, or related role; relevant internships, academic projects, or coursework may substitute for professional experience.
  • Foundational proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including sorting, formulas, and pivot tables.
  • Basic familiarity with SQL and/or a data visualization tool (such as Power BI) is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is sedentary to light, which requires the ability to exert light physical effort, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Tasks also require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. The position requires the ability to communicate orally and in writing.
