What is entry level data mapping?

Entry level data mapping refers to the process of matching data fields from one database or source to another, typically as part of data migration, integration, or transformation projects. Individuals in this role use software tools to identify relationships between different data sets, check for accuracy, and ensure that data is correctly transferred between systems. This position is ideal for those new to data management and often requires attention to detail, basic technical skills, and the ability to follow established mapping protocols. Entry level data mapping professionals may work closely with data analysts, engineers, or IT teams to support larger data projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level data mapping specialist?

To thrive as an Entry Level Data Mapping Specialist, you need a solid understanding of data structures, basic database concepts, and attention to detail, often supported by a relevant degree or coursework. Familiarity with data mapping tools, spreadsheets (such as Microsoft Excel), and sometimes beginner-level SQL is typically required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and clear communication are valuable soft skills for collaborating with team members and interpreting data requirements. These skills ensure accurate data integration, minimize errors, and support effective data-driven decision-making within organizations.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level data mapping professionals, and how can they be overcome?

Entry-level data mapping professionals often encounter challenges such as understanding complex data structures, dealing with incomplete or inconsistent data, and learning new mapping tools or software. Overcoming these challenges involves strong attention to detail, regular communication with team members or data owners to clarify requirements, and proactively seeking training or mentorship on industry-standard tools. Building a habit of documenting mapping processes and asking questions early can also help ensure accuracy and confidence in your work.

Job description

Search Consultant - Entry Level

Base: $50,000 (increasing to $55,000 post-probation). 1st Year OTE: $75,000 - $95,000 Uncapped commission from day one.

If you want a career where tenure earns promotions and ideas flow from the top down, stop reading.

If you want to sell something worth selling, to people worth knowing, in one of the most demanding and intellectually interesting corners of financial markets, keep going.

Thurn Partners is a specialist search and advisory firm operating exclusively across the alternative investment ecosystem. We work with hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, and asset managers across North America, the UK, and Europe, placing investment, research, and technology professionals where hiring decisions directly influence performance and capital outcomes.

Our work is relationship-led and systematically delivered. We combine deep market knowledge and long-standing networks with advanced systems, proprietary data, and applied technology to identify and engage individuals who are rarely visible and rarely applying. Precision over volume. Execution over process.

We are hiring a Search Consultant for the Miami office for a September 15th, 2026 start.

What you will be doing

This is a sales role. The commercial outcome matters, and your earnings are directly tied to it. But the route to that outcome is not cold volume. It is intelligence, research, and the kind of relationships that senior professionals trust.

The best consultants in this firm understand how firms are structured, what makes a specific strategy tick, and why a particular individual might or might not be open to a conversation at a given moment. They earn the right to have those conversations by being genuinely informed, not by making fifty cold calls a day.

In practice, you will be:

  • Running structured market mapping for active mandates, building intelligence on firms and individuals using our proprietary systems, data tools, and direct research.
  • Identifying high-calibre professionals across North America who are not actively looking โ€“ calling them to introduce yourself or writing precise, well-crafted outreach that earns a response from someone who ignores most approaches.
  • Qualifying candidates through structured conversations, assessing fit, motivation, and suitability against a client brief with real rigour.
  • Developing genuine depth across your coverage areas: how firms are structured, how strategies generate returns, what drives career decisions for the people you are approaching.
  • Converting information and relationships into revenue, closing searches and building the track record that drives your earnings and progression.
  • Building long-term relationships that compound over time. The person you place today is a client contact in three years and a referral source now.

Who we are looking for

Background and degree subject matter less than you might think. We are looking for a particular type of person.

You are intellectually curious. You want to understand how things work, not just what they are. When you hear about a hedge fund or a trading firm, you want to know how it is structured, what its edge is, who runs capital there, and why people join it. That curiosity, applied consistently, is what builds the market expertise that makes you worth calling back.

You connect dots. You absorb information from multiple sources, recognise patterns, and form your own view. You are comfortable sitting with complexity and still producing a clear output. That is how intelligent outreach gets written and how good calls get run.

You read people well. You build rapport quickly, listen properly, and understand what someone is actually telling you versus what they are saying. Knowing when to push, when to wait, and when a deal is real versus polite is a skill. It can be developed, but it requires a certain kind of social intelligence to start with.

You are commercially driven. You want to win, and you are honest with yourself about that. The intelligence and relationship work matters to you because it is how you win properly, not as a substitute for the commercial outcome.

You write clearly and precisely. Our outreach reaches senior professionals who receive a high volume of approaches. Yours needs to earn a read. That requires craft, not a template.

You hold yourself to a high standard without being managed into it. You are looking for a platform, a direction, and room to build. Not a manager standing over you.

Minimum requirements:

  • Exceptional written and verbal English. Non-negotiable.
  • 3 to 12 months of work experience. Internships and part-time roles count.
  • Evidence of leadership or standout performance outside of academics
  • Any degree discipline. We hire on potential, not degree title.

The tools and systems you will work with

We layer advanced systems, applied technology, and proprietary data into how we execute searches. This is not a firm running searches on spreadsheets and LinkedIn. You will be trained from day one on the platforms we use to map markets, structure intelligence, manage relationships, and identify patterns across our data over time.

Technology sharpens our reach and precision. It does not replace the human judgement and relationship depth the work depends on. If you are drawn to work that combines rigorous research, direct human engagement, and well-built systems, this environment is designed for that.

What you will earn and how you will grow

Your base salary is $50,000, increasing to $55,000 on successful completion of probation. First year OTE is $75,000 to $95,000. From there earnings scale dramatically based on your output. Commission is uncapped and active from your first placement. There is no ceiling on what you earn beyond your own output.

When you join, you enter Thurn Academy, our six-week onboarding programme. It is immersive and practical: market structure, investment strategies, sourcing methodology, systems training, content, and business development. Small cohort. Live mandate exposure. You will be operating in real conversations quickly.

Beyond Academy, you receive structured coaching, cross-team knowledge sessions, and direct feedback from senior leaders throughout your career. High performers are regularly promoted within 12 to 18 months. Progression is merit-based, transparent, and fast if you are good.

As you develop, you choose your path: deep market specialisation as an Individual Contributor, or a Management track building teams and expanding verticals. Both are viable. Neither requires a long wait.

Alongside commission, you will get:

  • 25 days PTO rising to 30, with one additional day earned each year
  • 5 sick days
  • Two weeks over Christmas where we shift to fully remote working, giving you the flexibility to travel and spend time with family - on top of your standard PTO
  • Two incentive trips per year for high performers
  • Regular company socials throughout the year
  • Three-month paid sabbatical after five years, and every five years after that
  • Fitness centre in the office
  • Mental health support through an online platform
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity leave
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company contribution

The interview process

Our process runs across four stages, moving from an initial conversation through to meeting multiple people across the business. It is designed to give us a thorough picture of you and give you a genuine one of us. You will always have a named point of contact and receive honest feedback at every stage.

A few things worth knowing

This is a four day a week on-site role in Downtown Miami (Miami Tower) with Wednesdays as an option to work from home. Our hours are 8:30am to 6:00pm Monday-Thursday and 8:30am to 4:00pm on Friday. We work with international clients, which means the day does not always end there. If you want work to stay at work, this is probably not the right place. If you want to build something real and earn in line with what you produce, it might be.

We operate a flat structure. Senior Partners sit alongside new Search Consultants. Feedback is honest and continuous. Accountability is not something we manage into people. It is something we hire for.

We are not able to sponsor work visas for this role.
