Job description

A Brief Overview
Schedule is: three 8 hour shifts a week including an every other week rotation.
Performs specimen procurement and/or processing of laboratory specimens. Provides laboratory support functions.
What You Will Do
  • Organizes and performs tasks efficiently to meet departmental turnaround time standards.
  • Performs computer data entry, laboratory processes including sterile technique, aliquoting and/or phlebotomy
  • Processes specimens for laboratory testing
  • Competent in the collection or processing of specialized samples.
  • Performs with minimal error rate.
  • Acts as a trainer and is a resource to other Specimen Processor Phlebotomists.
  • Needs minimal supervision and problems solves with little or no supervision.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications:
Education
  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and
  • Other Accredited Program: Formal Training from an accredited phlebotomy school or medical assistant program (preferred) (Preferred)
Work Experience
  • 1+ years phlebotomy experience (Required) or
  • 1+ years specimen processing experience (Required) or
  • less than 1 year Funding Healthcare Futures Program Participant (entry level) (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Initiaties and maintains positive relationships with patients, customers, co-workers.
  • Takes responsibility for self-development.
  • Working knowledge of pre-analytic laboratory and safety policies and procedures.
  • Displays initiative to perform job duties.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members.
  • Competent on venipuncture, heel stick, and fingerstick for all ages.
