About the Opportunity 

This is an open position within FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. 

The Analyst position ensures accurate internal management reporting and external financial reporting throughout the organization. 

The reporting location for this on-site position is FirstEnergy's corporate headquarters, located at 341 White Pond Drive, Akron, OH 44320. 

The Analyst will work within the reporting team and across various stakeholders including finance, accounting, and operations teams to ensure accurate internal management reporting and external financial reporting throughout the organization. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively. This position reports to the Director, Reporting and Corporate Business Services and is located at the Corporate Office in Akron, Ohio. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the preparation and distribution of various monthly internal reports
  • Participating in the preparation, documentation and analysis of the Company's periodic SEC and regulatory reporting and disclosures, specifically management's discussion and analysis
  • Participating in the preparation of supporting materials for investor relations
  • Participating in the preparation and analysis of annual budgets and forecasts
  • Providing support and assistance to external auditors
  • Conducting ad hoc research, analyzing data, interpreting results, and providing financial analysis to senior management for various ad hoc projects
  • Develop solutions to improve the accuracy or efficiency of complex business processes and /or projects
  • Interfacing with and support various departments within the organization (state finance, rates and regulatory affairs, investor relations, treasury, etc.)
  • Consistently anticipating and delivering against a defined action plan
  • Understanding the financial and strategic goals of FirstEnergy
  • Alignment with FirstEnergy's Core Values and Behaviors as well as priorities of the Finance organization. 
  • Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations/requirements

An employee hired at the Analyst V level will be expected to perform all the above responsibilities with proficiency and in an independent manner. Further, the Analyst V level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those above.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field required. MBA or relevant master's degree a plus.   
  • Minimum 7 years relevant work experience required
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills and the ability to connect financial data to business decisions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); advanced knowledge of Excel a plus
  • SAP knowledge is preferred
  • Strong understanding of financial cost flows / concepts
  • Familiarity with QlikView or other reporting tools
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Utility or regulated industry experience a plus 
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results and develop relationships
  • Desire to learn, grow and work across FirstEnergy and deliver results
  • Ability to anticipate questions ahead of time (think and act proactively)
  • Superior analytical abilities 
  • Ability to formally present complex subject matter to all levels of management
