Entry Level Data Analyst Rotational Program information

What is an entry level data analyst rotational program?

An Entry Level Data Analyst Rotational Program is a structured early-career opportunity that allows recent graduates or newcomers to the field to work in different departments or teams within a company, focusing on data analysis tasks. Participants rotate through various roles or projects over a set period, gaining exposure to diverse business areas and analytical tools. The program is designed to help participants develop a broad skill set, build professional networks, and identify areas of interest for their future career paths. Upon completion, individuals often transition into a permanent analytical role within the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level data analyst in a rotational program?

To thrive as an Entry Level Data Analyst in a Rotational Program, you need a foundational understanding of statistics, data analysis, and proficiency with spreadsheet tools, typically supported by a relevant bachelor's degree. Familiarity with data visualization platforms like Tableau or Power BI, database querying languages such as SQL, and sometimes Python or R is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and effective communication set candidates apart, especially when working across multiple teams or business units. These skills are crucial for accurately interpreting data, delivering actionable insights, and succeeding in varied analytical roles during the rotational experience.

What are the benefits of participating in an entry level data analyst rotational program compared to a traditional entry-level analyst role?

Joining a rotational program as an entry-level data analyst offers the unique advantage of gaining exposure to multiple departments or projects within the organization. This structure allows you to develop a broad range of technical and business skills, work with diverse teams, and identify which area best aligns with your interests and strengths. Rotational programs often provide mentorship, structured training, and regular feedback, which can accelerate your professional growth and open doors to specialized or leadership roles in the future. Additionally, the variety of experiences helps you build a strong internal network and better understand the organization's data-driven decision-making processes.

Job description

Description:

AMBA is seeking a talented Data Analyst to join our growing Information Technology Team! We are looking for someone with detail oriented skills who thrives in an agile, team-oriented environment.

About AMBA

Since 1981, AMBA has been a trusted provider of essential coverage for retired public servants nationwide. Our reach extends to diverse groups, including hardworking public employees, state retirees, educators, military personnel, trade professionals, firefighters, law enforcement, Unions, Alumni groups, Allied Healthcare, and other non-profit associations. As a full-service marketing and membership development company, we proudly offer outstanding insurance services to our vast network of 44 million members across 450+ associations in all 50 states

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, spending accounts, and other voluntary benefits.
  • Annual Bonus Program.
  • Corporate 401k Matching.
  • Generous time off, 10 paid company holidays, sick time off, and paid parental leave.
  • Community Involvement perks, including 1 paid day off each year to volunteer with a local charity of your choice and company volunteer events.
  • Support & development to cultivate your knowledge and continuing education to support your professional designations
  • Business casual dress code.
  • Hybrid work arrangement.

About the Role

Three years ago, AMBA completed the largest acquisition in company history - nearly doubling our size in people and infrastructure almost overnight. Since then, our Data & Analytics team has been quietly doing some of the most consequential work in the company: consolidating two separate, aging reporting environments built around insurance policy administration into a single, trustworthy source of truth.

We've settled on our approach. Data is cleansed and integrated in our on-premises SQL Server environment, then published into Azure Fabric, where we're building semantic models that will power everything from Power BI reporting to API integrations to AI-driven analysis. It's foundational infrastructure work with a clear, high-visibility payoff.

An outside consultant has helped us stand up the Fabric and semantic-modeling side of this build. As that engagement winds down, we're looking for an Analytics Engineer to join the team permanently, absorb what's been built, and carry the next phase forward.

This isn't a maintenance job. You'd be building a semantic layer from scratch, at a company genuinely staking its reporting future on it, with a clear growth path into skills currently held by an outside consultant — and real ownership from day one.

The Day-to-Day

  • Design and build semantic models in Azure Fabric on top of our consolidated SQL Server data, balancing performance, usability, and governance.
  • Own the handoff from our data engineering team's cleansed, integrated data into consumable, well-modeled semantic layers.
  • Build and maintain Power BI reporting on these models, including DAX measures, row-level/object-level security, and deployment pipelines.
  • Help shape how the semantic layer serves consumers beyond Power BI — API access patterns and AI/analytics use cases.
  • Document architecture, modeling decisions, and processes so this knowledge lives with the team, not with a single person.
  • Partner with and mentor our data engineering team on cloud and semantic-modeling concepts as they grow into this space alongside you.
Requirements:
  • Solid grounding in dimensional/semantic data modeling - star schemas, fact/dimension design, grain.
  • Working proficiency in DAX and Power Query (M).
  • Strong SQL skills and hands-on comfort working directly in SQL Server.
  • Experience with at least one cloud analytics platform (Azure Fabric, Synapse, Databricks, or similar) - you don't need to be a Fabric expert on day one, but you've made the on-prem-to-cloud leap before.
  • A track record of documenting your work and explaining technical decisions to non-specialists.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with Azure Fabric (OneLake, lakehouse/warehouse concepts, Direct Lake mode).
  • Experience with semantic model deployment and version control (Tabular Editor, Azure DevOps, deployment pipelines).
  • Exposure to notebooks, Python, or Spark for analytics workloads.
  • Insurance or financial services domain experience.

AMBA is an equal opportunity employer committed to providing a workplace free from harassment and discrimination. We celebrate the unique differences of our employees because that is what drives curiosity, innovation, and the success of our business. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, pregnancy, parental status, genetic information, political affiliation, or any other status protected by the laws or regulations in the locations where we operate. We value diversity and the skills, knowledge, and experience that difference brings to our culture, attracting top talent with shared values and forming the foundation for a great place to work.
