Job description

About Anza
Anza is building a mortgage insurance company from first principles. Most mortgage insurers operate on decades-old technology, manual workflows, organizational structures, and operating assumptions that have evolved incrementally over time. We believe there is a fundamentally better way.
Our vision is to build the industry's most technology-enabled mortgage insurer, one where software, automation, AI, analytics, and thoughtful operating design create better experiences for customers while allowing the business to scale efficiently without simply adding people.
We are not interested in making legacy processes slightly better. We are interested in building the operating model that mortgage insurance should have had all along.
About the role
The Credit Policy Analyst will play a supporting role in building and scaling Anza's credit governance framework. Reporting to the Head of Credit Policy, this role sits at the intersection of credit policy interpretation, exception management, data analysis, and GSE change implementation.
This position is responsible for supporting consistent, defensible application of Anza's underwriting and servicing guidelines while helping identify and document emerging credit trends through data.
This is an opportunity to grow within a lean, fast-moving Risk organization and to have direct visibility into how credit policy, pricing, QC, underwriting, and operational execution align to support responsible growth
What you'll do
Credit Policy & Exception Governance
  • Support the interpretation and application of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac credit guidelines
  • Document policy interpretations and credit exceptions with clear rationale
  • Maintain centralized decision logs and precedent tracking
  • Identify emerging gray-area trends and recommend guidance updates

Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Write and maintain SQL queries to support exception tracking, trend analysis, and risk reporting
  • Help develop and maintain reporting on exception volume/types, pricing-impacting scenarios, and QC feedback themes
  • Identify patterns in loan data that may indicate credit box drift

GSE Change Management
  • Assist in monitoring and summarizing GSE guideline updates
  • Support translation of policy changes into internal procedures and system requirements
  • Maintain change logs and implementation tracking

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Underwriting, QC, Pricing, and Operations
  • Support development of scalable data-driven workflows

Qualifications
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education
  • Master's Degree
  • 1-3 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, credit policy, QC, or related functions (or equivalent internship/academic experience)
  • Familiarity of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Selling Guide requirements
  • Proficiency in SQL, able to write queries independently against structured data
  • Ability to document clear, consistent policy interpretations and exception rationales
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to operate independently in a startup environment

What we offer
We're committed to creating an environment where our team members can thrive both professionally and personally. We currently offer:
  • Competitive Compensation - Including salary and performance bonuses.
  • Comprehensive Benefits - Health, dental, vision, and mental wellness support.
  • Retirement Savings - 401(k) with company matching.
  • Career advancement opportunities with business growth.
