Adventure Credit Union has been providing financial services to their members for over 90 years and are continuing to grow to meet their members changing needs. We currently are looking to add a full time Senior Underwriter to our Adventure Team!


The purpose of the Senior Underwriter serves as a trusted lending resource through accurate, compliant, and timely underwriting decisions. This position evaluates member loan requests, manages credit risk, and provides guidance to staff to ensure responsible lending practices that support members' financial well-being. Positively supports Adventure Credit Union's brand and promotes a service culture consistent with the credit unions' mission, vision and core behaviors.


Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Evaluate and underwrite consumer loan requests, including   unsecured loans, vehicle loans, indirect loans and home equity products

Verify accuracy and authenticity of supporting   documentation including proof of insurance and verification of income.

Assess borrower   creditworthiness, risk factors, and repayment ability using credit reports,   income analysis, and collateral evaluation.

Review and   analyze all home equity documents received to determine ratios, credit and   collateral acceptability including but not limited to, reviewing title   searches, SEV, appraisals, income verification and flood insurance binders. 

Ensure   underwriting decisions are compliant with internal policies, state and   federal regulations, and applicable lending laws (e.g., ECOA, Fair Lending,   HMDA where applicable).

Review and   decision modification requests including hardship applications submitted by   Financial Restoration

Provide   feedback and guidance to member-facing staff to help them develop their   skills in building thorough loan applications which provide the best   opportunity for loan approval and greatest benefit to the member.

Exercise lending authority within approved limits and   provide second-level review on escalated or complex applications.

Analyzes and resolves non-routine problems and   account adjustments. 

Utilize loan   origination systems and underwriting tools to document decisions and maintain   data accuracy.

Maintain   various systems that touch the loan process, such as keeping loan rates   updated in loan application systems and the intranet.

Prepare,   review, and analyze loan-related reports to support underwriting, risk   management, and operational needs.

Assist with   various organizational projects.

Proactively   identify member financial needs and recommend appropriate lending or   financial solutions.

Make prudent   decisions in a timely, well researched manner that reflects awareness of   impact.

Engage in   proper and professional communication of pertinent information and knowledge   and proper use of all internal technology to share information internally   with those who need to know it 

Demonstrate   sensitivity, support, respect, flexibility, dependability and timeliness in   order to take personal responsibility and accountability for actions and   performance. 

Engage in   continuous learning to maintain an adequate level of knowledge in all areas   of responsibility.

Attend, prepare   for and participate in department and credit union wide meetings and   trainings. 

Identify,   research, and recommend policy, procedure, and process improvements.

All other responsibilities as assigned by Management.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education and work experience.

Minimum of  three (3) years' experience underwriting consumer and home equity loans preferred. Candidates with strong knowledge of underwriting principles, relevant lending experience, and demonstrated ability to assess credit risk will also be considered. 

Must obtain, maintain and disclose an NMLS registry ID number in accordance with the SAFE Act.

Excellent typing and computer skills, including in-house email and core systems.

Proficient in all Microsoft Office application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).Â
