Job description
With continuous advancement in patient care, health care workers with training in the latest technology and best practices are in constant demand. The Harper College Health Careers Division prepares students for a career in a variety of health settings, from hospitals and clinics, to nursing homes and community-based organizations.
The CAHIIM-accredited Health Information Technology program prepares diverse, active learners equipped with the technical, collaborative, and communications skills required to meet the evolving needs of the workforce as entry-level health information professionals through quality and equitable instruction.
Schedule Information: Classes are Online. Occasional meetings on campus in Palatine, IL for ongoing education and program planning with faculty, staff and HIT program stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Job Description:
- Teach online medical coding classes (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS) as needed in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
- Lead/participate in weekly online (synchronous and asynchronous) discussions with students
- Possess a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.
- Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
- Maintain expertise and certifications appropriate to teaching responsibilities.
- Grade and provide detailed feedback on all assignments within a timely manner.
- Actively respond to student emails and requests within 24 hours.
- Employ a positive and professional tone in all communications with students, staff, and faculty.
- Collaborate with HIT Program Coordinator and HIT faculty on program reporting and other initiatives
Qualifications
Education Requirements:
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology/Management with current RHIT certification and coding certification(s) CPC or CCS-P or CCS. Bachelor's degree or higher with RHIT or RHIA certification preferred.
Experience Requirements:
- Current medical coding experience (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS)
- Previous teaching/training/tutoring experience
- Familiarity with learning management system such as Blackboard
- Experience using 3M encoder and grouper software
Required Documents: ***A resume and cover letter are required to complete the application process***
- Official transcripts required upon hire
- Industry certifications (upload AHIMA and/or AAPC id card with current certification(s) and valid-through dates listed)
- Employment is contingent upon Criminal Background Check.
