We're hiring a Control Systems Engineer at our Corporate Headquarters in Columbia, MO, and we're looking for someone who's ready to grow with us, bring energy and drive to their work, and help us build the future of construction. This position is fully remote.
The Control Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, integration, and standardization of control systems across EquipmentShare's Advanced Solutions fleet, including power generation, energy storage, load banks, electrical distribution, climate control, and compressed air systems. This role focuses on ensuring consistent and reliable control system performance across a mixed fleet of equipment by driving integration between control platforms, standardizing communication structures, and supporting interoperability between systems. The position supports both new equipment development and existing fleet optimization, with a strong emphasis on controls integration and system-level functionality.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Controls Integration & Standardization
    • Integrate control systems across generators, BESS, load banks, electrical distribution, climate control, and compressed air equipment
    • Support development of standardized control approaches across multiple OEM platforms
    • Ensure consistent behavior, logic structure, and interface expectations across equipment types
    • Develop and maintain sequence of operations for complex, multi-asset systems
    • Support system-level functionality including load coordination, staging, and response

    Controls Design & Implementation
    • Develop and support PLC logic, HMI interfaces, and control architectures
    • Configure communication between devices using industrial protocols (Modbus, CAN, Ethernet-based systems, etc.)
    • Support implementation of control system upgrades and enhancements across the fleet
    • Assist in defining control requirements for new equipment and applications

    Modbus Mapping & Data Integration
    • Develop and maintain standardized Modbus maps across equipment platforms
    • Validate parameter consistency including naming, scaling, and structure
    • Support internal initiatives to define key parameters for monitoring and control
    • Work with internal teams and vendors to improve data accessibility and usability
    • Assist in translating equipment data into actionable information for operations

    Telemetry Support (T3 Integration)
    • Support integration of equipment into EquipmentShare's telematics platform (T3)
    • Assist in validating data points and communication reliability
    • Work with internal teams to troubleshoot data gaps and inconsistencies
    • Provide input to improve visibility, alarms, and reporting based on control system data

    Commissioning & Field Support
    • Support commissioning of control systems in both factory and field environments
    • Troubleshoot control, communication, and integration issues
    • Support system startup, testing, and validation
    • Assist with remote diagnostics and technical support

    Documentation & Technical Development
    • Develop control schematics, IO lists, and system architecture documentation
    • Create and maintain control narratives and functional descriptions
    • Define alarm, shutdown, and safety logic
    • Support development of internal standards and best practices

    Cross-Functional Support
    • Partner with Engineering, Fleet, and Operations on equipment performance and integration
    • Support Sales with technical input for complex, multi-system projects
    • Work with vendors to improve control system compatibility and integration
    • Assist in fleet optimization, reliability, and standardization initiatives

    • At least 3 years experience as controlled systems engineer or equivalent work
    • Experience with PLC-based control systems
    • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, CAN, Ethernet-based systems)
    • Experience integrating control systems across multiple equipment types or platforms
    • Working knowledge of three-phase power systems
    • Experience with power generation, energy storage, load banks, climate control, or compressed air systems, preferred
    • Experience with telematics or remote monitoring platforms, preferred
    • Experience with data mapping, protocol translation, or system integration, preferred
    • Familiarity with commissioning and field startup environments, preferred
    • Experience working across mixed OEM equipment fleets, preferred

    Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and work on a computer.
    • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to project sites (up to 20%-40% travel).
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
