Nature of Work Engineer Trainee West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection Division of Air Quality Permitting/Non-Title V Office Location: 601 57th Street, Southeast, Charleston, WV 25304 This position is classified exempt; therefore, does not fall under the classified service. Under close supervision of a licensed professional engineer, performs work at the entry-level, in a training capacity, on a variety of engineering services necessary to the Permitting Section. Duties include: Reviewing and processing air pollution control permit applications to ensure that facilities are designed and operated in accordance with applicable state and federal air pollution control laws and regulations, as well as consistency with sound engineering practices. Preparing draft permits which are reviewed prior to issuance for accuracy and completeness.

Developing and maintaining knowledge of existing and new state and federal regulations and air pollution technologies through training and independent study. Conducting routine complaint response inspections and investigations. Composing reports detailing recommendations, conclusions and findings.

Initiating procedures for pursuing administrative enforcement actions, as appropriate. Preparing a variety of reports and correspondence and updates computer data files on a regular basis. Conducting field inspections which may require walking over rugged terrain and inclement weather.

May perform other duties as required. Notes: Regular attendance is an essential part of this position. Qualifying applicants will be required to complete an internet-based profile assessment to compare the applicant's thinking and reasoning skills, behavioral traits and the occupational interests against the traits determined to be important to the posted position.
