Job description

Construction Estimator
Location: Hybrid (Detroit, MI Preferred; Minimum 3 Days On-Site)
Job Type: Full-Time | Exempt
Compensation: $80,000-$90,000 (based on experience)
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated Junior Estimator to join our Preconstruction team. This entry-level to early-career role supports senior estimators throughout the estimating process, including quantity takeoffs, subcontractor solicitation, bid coordination, and post-award documentation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, eager to learn, and interested in building a career in commercial construction estimating. Prior estimating experience is preferred but not required for candidates with strong technical aptitude and relevant education or internship experience.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Preconstruction Support
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from construction drawings using industry-standard estimating software under the guidance of senior estimators.
  • Assist in preparing estimate spreadsheets, cost summaries, takeoff logs, and bid documentation across CSI divisions.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and addenda to identify scope requirements and support estimate updates.
  • Assist with general conditions pricing, estimate templates, historical cost databases, and unit cost libraries.
  • Identify discrepancies or missing information in project documents and communicate findings to senior team members.

Bid & Subcontractor Coordination
  • Assist with subcontractor bid invitations and track bid coverage throughout the solicitation process.
  • Organize subcontractor proposals and support preliminary scope comparisons.
  • Provide bid-day support by tracking incoming pricing and assisting with final estimate compilation.
  • Follow up with subcontractors regarding pricing, documentation, and scope clarifications.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 1-4 years of experience in commercial construction estimating, project engineering, or a related construction role.
  • Internship or co-op experience in construction is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation preferred.

Technical Skills
Experience or familiarity with the following is preferred:
  • Bluebeam Revu
  • Sage Estimating or similar estimating software
  • Microsoft Office 365 (Excel proficiency required)
  • BuildingConnected or similar bid management platforms

Training will be provided for the right candidate.
Work Environment
  • Hybrid work environment with a minimum of three days per week in the office.
  • Up to 15% local travel to project sites and meetings.
  • Opportunity to work alongside experienced preconstruction professionals on active commercial construction projects ranging from tenant improvements to large-scale developments.
  • Occasional extended hours during active bid deadlines.
