Job description

What's the role. The City of Chino Hills is seeking applications for the positions of Assistant Engineer and Associate Engineer to join our Public Works Engineering Division. These positions support the planning, design, review, and delivery of public infrastructure projects that serve the community.

We are looking for a collaborative and motivated engineering professional who is eager to contribute to City projects and community improvements. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail. Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to work effectively with staff, contractors, consultants, outside agencies, and the public.

The Assistant Engineer is the entry-level classification in the series and performs routine engineering work under direct supervision. The Associate Engineer is the journey-level classification and performs the full range of engineering duties with greater independence and general supervision. This position might be perfect for you SOME OF THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE: Perform professional and technical civil engineering work related to public infrastructure projects. Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents. Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) and other engineering tools to support project delivery.

Coordinate projects and activities with consultants, contractors, developers, City departments, and outside agencies. Conduct field investigations, inspections, and project-related site visits. Maintain engineering records and prepare technical reports.

Respond to public inquiries and provide technical assistance. Additional Duties May Include: Assistant Engineer: Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) for the drafting and design of assigned projects. Assist with engineering studies and preparation of reports and recommendations.

Draft engineering plans and studies. Assist with the review of encroachment permits and oversized haul permit applications. Operate computer-aided drafting, design, and mapping programs.

Associate Engineer: Conduct engineering studies and prepare reports with recommendations. Review and prepare engineering plans and studies. Review encroachment permits and oversized haul permit applications.

LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Class 'C' Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required. CERTIFICATION: Highly desired: Possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certificate issued by the State of California. *Applicants must attach proof of certification/license at the time of application ASSOCIATE ENGINEER QUALIFICATIONS A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be to meet the minimum qualifications of: EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience

Highly desired: Geographic Information Systems experience EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field. *Applicants must attach proof of degree at the time of application. LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Class 'C' Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required.

CERTIFICATION: Highly desired: Possession of an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certificate issued by the State of California.
