Job description

Summary

A growing general contractor specializing in public works, healthcare, education, federal, and institutional construction is seeking a Construction Project Engineer to support projects throughout Southern California. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career construction professional looking to gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced Project Managers and Superintendents on technically challenging public and institutional projects.

The Project Engineer will support project documentation, RFIs, submittals, procurement, subcontractor coordination, cost tracking, scheduling, quality control, and closeout while developing toward increased project management responsibility.

Responsibilities
  • Support Project Managers and Superintendents with day-to-day project coordination
  • Prepare, track, and manage RFIs, submittals, and project documentation
  • Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, and construction documents
  • Maintain drawing logs, submittal logs, RFI logs, procurement logs, and project records
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and project stakeholders
  • Assist with subcontractor procurement, scope reviews, and buyout
  • Track long-lead materials, equipment, and project deliveries
  • Assist with change orders, pricing, cost tracking, and budget updates
  • Support project schedule updates and monitor upcoming milestones
  • Attend project meetings and assist with meeting minutes and follow-up items
  • Perform site walks and assist with quality control and progress documentation
  • Coordinate inspections and required project documentation
  • Assist with punch lists, closeout documents, warranties, O&M manuals, and final turnover
  • Support compliance with company safety and project-specific requirements
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of Project Engineer or related commercial construction experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
  • General contractor experience preferred
  • Exposure to public works, healthcare, education, federal, institutional, or commercial construction is a plus
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications
  • Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, and project documentation
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working between the office and active construction sites
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Motivated to develop into an Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager
