The Mechanical Engineering department leads in the mechanical hardware design, development, and production of weapons systems. We use state-of-the-art tools, processes, and technology, with capabilities encompassing a broad range of technical disciplines, including product engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials engineering, analysis and test, rapid hardware development/builds and configuration and data management documentation.
The Mechanical Products Team is seeking a CAD Design Engineer in the Shipboard Effectors Department. This position is located on-site in Tucson, AZ.
What You Will Do:
  • Plan, lay-out, draw, and revise detailed part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings from basic layouts, references, and data.
  • Complete details of major layout drawings prepared by others in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices using computer aided design systems.
  • Determine scaling, inserts necessary reference datums, center and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning.
  • Prepare complete production detail drawings. Develop design drawings according to engineering sketches and proposal specifications.
  • Solve routine problems of varying scope and complexity following established policies and procedures with minimal direction or supervision.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with CREO Parametric (Pro/Engineer) solid modeling CAD tool and considerable knowledge of Windchill data management (PDM) tool.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Able to identify and correct design, model, or drawing errors/omissions/deficiencies and recommend corrective actions or improvements
  • Experience using, interpreting, applying, and making decisions regarding the application of documentation specifications such as MIL-STD-31000, ASME Y14.5M, ASME Y14.24, and ASME Y14.100.
  • Experience with variety of CAD software programs such as Solidworks, CATIA, NX, Inventor, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Experience being able to apply and make decisions regarding Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and perform first order tolerance analysis
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to learn and use internal tools
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and networking skills, ability to work well with others including customers and suppliers
  • Motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment with timely problem resolution utilizing a professional, positive, proactive attitude, strong customer focus, and a desire to help others
  • Ability to recognize roadblocks/issues and elevate/suggest appropriate corrective action
  • Strong attention to detail and work ethic
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Drafting Standards, Mechanical Engineering Process for documentation preparation
    • Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering processes and procedures

  • Candidate will have a complete understanding of basic principles, theories and concepts for creation and preparation of engineering design documentation
  • Candidate will have a complete knowledge of industry practices and standards used in drafting, modeling and design development/revision
  • Technical knowledge sufficient to perform complex tasks such as preparation of all types of detail drawings, large assemblies, castings or other preforms, interface drawings, various layouts for design concepts, and many other high-level tasks.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
