You inspect and repair technology, addressing issues with your customer’s server, computer hardware and equipment, connections, and other technical problems. In addition to dealing with hardware issues, your duties include troubleshooting software and firmware problems. You also help clients install and set up new systems, such as networks, IPs, and other components. As an entry-level computer technician, you often assist more senior technicians, and you may have instructional duties as well, such as teaching end-users how to use new technology.

To thrive as an Entry Level Computer Technician, you need foundational knowledge in computer hardware, operating systems, troubleshooting, and basic networking, often supported by a relevant associate degree or technical certification like CompTIA A+. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, imaging software, and ticketing systems is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and clear communication skills help you excel in assisting users and collaborating with team members. Seeking mentorship from experienced team members and taking advantage of training resources can also accelerate learning and boost confidence in the role.
