Job description

TAB / NEBB Technician (Testing, Adjusting & Balancing)

American Air Balance, LLC – Loveland, OH

Full-Time | Monday–Friday | Some travel required

About the Role

American Air Balance (AAB) is seeking motivated individuals to join our field team as Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) Technicians. In this hands-on role, you’ll help ensure commercial HVAC systems perform exactly as designed — balancing airflow, verifying equipment operation, and troubleshooting complex system challenges.

We’re looking for candidates across three experience levels:

  1. Experienced TAB Technicians (NEBB or AABC Certified)
  2. HVAC or Controls Technicians with strong mechanical aptitude
  3. Entry-Level Graduates or Trainees ready to learn the TAB trade

If you’re curious about how systems work, enjoy problem-solving, and want a clear career path in a highly specialized field, this role could be an excellent fit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform testing, adjusting, and balancing of air and hydronic systems to meet design specifications
  • Read and interpret MEP blueprints, duct layouts, and control schematics
  • Use digital instruments to measure airflow, static pressure, temperature, and system performance
  • Troubleshoot field issues involving controls, equipment, or installation errors
  • Prepare and submit accurate TAB reports in required format and timelines
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and engineers during on-site work
  • Maintain company equipment and ensure safety standards are followed
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs through NEBB

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites (local and occasional overnight)
  • Strong mechanical or HVAC aptitude
  • Basic algebra/math and computer literacy (Excel, Outlook, digital tools)
  • Comfort working at heights and in mechanical spaces

Preferred:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or Applied Sciences
  • Prior experience in commercial HVAC service, controls, or commissioning
  • Active NEBB or AABC certification (TAB CT or CP) — or interest in pursuing certification

Training & Certification Path

AAB is a NEBB Certified Firm, and we actively support your professional growth.

  • Trainees begin with field mentoring and NEBB home-study coursework.
  • After ~2 years of experience, you’ll be eligible to sit for the NEBB Technician (TAB CT) exam.
  • With additional experience or a technical degree, you can progress toward Professional (TAB CP) certification
  • NEBB-Candidacy-Pre-Reqs-for-all…
  • TAB Technician

What Success Looks Like

  • Within 12 months: working independently, reading blueprints confidently, producing accurate test results, and communicating effectively with site teams.
  • Within 24 months: eligible for NEBB Technician certification and recognized as a trusted, problem-solving field expert.

Why Join American Air Balance

  • Competitive pay based on experience and certification level
  • Paid training and NEBB certification support
  • Overtime opportunities and per diem for travel
  • Health and dental insurance
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Company vehicle and tools (for field roles)
  • Supportive, team-oriented environment focused on quality and professionalism

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM (hours may vary by project)
  • Occasional evenings/weekends as needed for commercial projects
  • Travel required (mostly regional; occasional overnight)
