 The Opportunity

We are seeking an Investment Research Engineer that will work directly with portfolio managers, analysts, data professionals, and technology partners to improve processes through practical, well-designed technology. This role requires a builder’s mindset to understand the problem, structure the data, define the business logic, prototype the solution, improve the user experience, and help drive adoption. This role sits at the intersection of investment research, technology, data, and AI and will work closely with stakeholders to turn ambiguous investment problems into useful tools and scalable workflows.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with investment professionals to understand research workflows, analytical needs, and decision-making processes
  • Translate investment research problems into structured data, business logic, prototypes, and practical tools
  • Build and improve solutions that support screening, idea generation, company research, valuation, portfolio monitoring, risk review, and decision tracking
  • Use AI-assisted development tools, Python, SQL, analytics platforms, and modern application frameworks to create useful research products
  • Help design data structures that make investment information more reusable, consistent, and scalable
  • Develop front-end workflows and user experiences that make tools intuitive for busy investment professionals
  • Partner with internal Data, Business Technology, and AI teams to ensure solutions are maintainable and aligned with firm standards
  • Gather feedback, communicate clearly, and earn stakeholder buy-in
  • Take promising prototypes and turn them into repeatable capabilities for the broader Investment team
  • Build tools and workflows that can be adopted by real users
  • Work with the Research Lab to scale ideas from individual prototypes into durable firm capabilities

 Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, computer science, engineering, mathematics, data science, business, or a related field
  • Approximately 2–5 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Python, SQL, data analysis, or application development is an asset
  • Exposure to investment research, financial statements, valuation, portfolio analytics, or capital markets is helpful
  • Experience with AI tools, data platforms, dashboards, APIs, or full-stack development is helpful but not required
  • Experience in investment management, equity research, financial analysis, data analytics, financial technology, or software/data engineerin
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-performance teams
  • Experience in fast-paced, agile environments—comfortable with rapid experimentation, iteration, and problem-solving 
  • Are genuinely interested in investing, business analysis, and how investment decisions are made
  • Enjoy building things and are comfortable learning new technical tools
  • Can move between business conversations and technical implementation
  • Able to use or learn tools such as Python, SQL, Power BI, APIs, AI coding assistants, and modern web/application frameworks
  • Care about user experience and building tools that people actually use
