Job description

Promise Robotics is pioneering Physical AI for homebuilding - a rapidly growing, venture-backed company bringing together AI, robotics, and manufacturing to help the homebuilding industry meet the growing demand for housing. Our robotic systems, built and operated inside  AI-powered factories, give the industry the production capacity, consistency, and speed to build more high-quality homes than traditional methods allow. Our team spans AI researchers and roboticists to factory operators, technicians, and production teams - all building the future of homebuilding together.

We're building physical AI for housing - and unlike most of the field, our robots are already in production, fabricating real structures and generating real operational data every day across multiple factories.

We're looking for a Robotics Software Developer to join our team and contribute to developing cutting-edge solutions for our core robotic manufacturing technologies. This is an early-career role for someone with strong fundamentals and hands-on robotics project experience who wants to develop it in production.

Why join us?
  • Purpose-Driven Work:Contribute to projects with significant social, economic, and environmental impact.

  • Growth Opportunities:Be part of a growth-stage startup with substantial upside and leadership potential.

  • Cutting-Edge Technology:Work on state-of-the-art robotics solutions at the intersection of construction and automation.

  • Collaborative Culture:Join a diverse, high-performing team committed to continuous learning and innovation.

What you'll do:
  • Build and maintain simulation scenes - set up and extend simulation environments and test scenarios that mirror our production cells.

  • Implement motion routines - develop and tune motion-planning and collision-checking behaviors in ROS 2 / MoveIt2 under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Develop perception components - implement object detection, pose estimation, and point-cloud processing tasks for material handling and inspection.

  • Write clean, tested code - produce well-documented C++ and Python, backed by unit and integration tests.

  • Debug integration issues - help troubleshoot software-hardware issues alongside the robotics and hardware teams.

  • Participate in the team's practices - contribute to code reviews, agile ceremonies, and CI pipelines.

What you'll need to succeed:
  • Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields (Masters/Ph.D. preferred).
  • Solid programming ability in C++ and/or Python.

  • Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and basic control concepts.

  • Ability to solve complex problems involving multi-disciplinary engineering concepts.

  • Hands-on experience with ROS or ROS 2 - through projects, internships, co-ops, or coursework.

  • Familiarity with at least one robotics simulator (Gazebo, Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, PyBullet, or similar).

  • Exposure to computer vision or perception concepts.

  • Eagerness to learn, take feedback, and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced startup.

  • Willingness to work onsite at our R&D labs and production facilities in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta.

Preferred Skills:

  • An internship, co-op, competition team (e.g., robotics/autonomy), or a portfolio of robotics projects.

  • Experience with MoveIt2 or another motion-planning framework.

  • Familiarity with Isaac Sim / Omniverse or similar simulation tools.

  • Coursework, research, or side projects involving VLA models, LLMs, or machine learning for robotics.

  • Any exposure to industrial robots (KUKA, ABB, Fanuc) or sensor systems (cameras, depth sensors, force sensors, LiDAR).

  • DevOps basics - Docker, Git, CI/CD.

Benefits:
Competitive salary: we believe in data-driven, equitable compensation decisions. We recently completed a compensation review and implemented salary bands that enable us to pay mid to above-average Canadian salaries across various industries.
Stock options: everyone has a stake in our company.
Holistic benefits: we have a comprehensive benefits package that includes paramedical, dental, vision, and drug coverage for you and your dependents, as well as a health care spending account. These benefits start right from Day 1.
Flexible personal days and vacation policies: we care deeply about the well-being of our team.
Open, collaborative, and supportive culture: you will be part of an incredibly high-performing and collaborative team changing the future of an industry!
Relocation assistance package (if required)
