Job description

Basic Qualifications
Education:
  • Requires High School diploma or the equivalent.
  • Requires 2-4 years of related work experience / additional specialized training in the technical field of CAD drafting, engineering.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred, but must be obtainable within a reasonable amount of time after hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an opening for a Drafter to join our growing Mechanical Design team. The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with our high performance engineering teams. Key Responsibilities
The Drafter will perform the following duties working closely with a more experienced Drafter, a Designer, Checker or an Engineer.
  • Consolidate details from a variety of sketches, prints, and assembly drawings
  • Make necessary calculations following established standards and procedures
  • Using established procedures arrange details on assigned work and produce 2 and 3 dimensional detail drawings of a simple to moderately complex nature
  • Perform simple small part modeling, cable, part and sub assembly modeling and prepare assembly drawings
  • Perform modifications to existing moderately complex assembly drawings under the direction of a Designer, Checker or Engineer
  • Modify existing and create new drawings for parts, assemblies, and cables
  • Prepare wiring and bill of material lists and routing diagrams, including required views, dimensions and notes
  • Apply documentation standards specific to the assigned program
  • Provide basic guidance to entry-level Drafters
  • Duties may include Detailer, EPL Integration, and Digital Signature
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PTC Creo, AutoCAD or an equivalent CAD software and the ability to learn other software packages such as Cadra, Mentor Graphics and Cable Harness System (CHS) PDM Link, Team Center and CHS software packages
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to effectively use software such as Visio or Excel
  • Demonstrates basic proficiency in the use of proper drawing formatting
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Demonstrates ability to properly apply datum's
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction, work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to adjust with ease to changing priorities, tasks and assignments
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to perform sedentary work more than 50% of the time
  • Ability to perform computer based work of a close and exacting nature over 70% of the time
  • Visual acuity:
    • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, ability to adjust eye to bring objects into sharp focus, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to differentiate between all colors in the standard color spectrum.
    • Three dimensional vision and ability to judge distances and special relationships over 70% of the time.
