Are you someone who enjoys working with your hands, learning new skills, and being part of a team that tests real-world products? APA - The Engineered Wood Association is hiring an Associate Laboratory Technician to support our lab team in Tacoma.
This is a great entry-level opportunity for someone starting their career in a wood laboratory, or skilled trades environment. If you are dependable, curious, and comfortable working with tools and equipment, we will train you.
What You Will Do
In this role, you will support day-to-day lab operations and learn how engineered wood products are tested and evaluated. Your work will include:
- Set up and run basic lab tests using established procedures
- Prepare wood samples using saws and other shop tools
- Record test results and enter data into a computer database
- Assist with maintaining and cleaning lab equipment
- Support team projects, including helping build or modify test setup
- Work with scientists and engineers to establish testing procedures and project needs
- Follow all safety guidelines and keep your work area organized

This position is best suited for someone who:
- Is early in their career or changing into a hands-on field
- Wants to learn practical technical skills on the job
- Enjoys physical, active work versus desk-based roles
This role is not focused on advanced research design or senior-level technical work. It is a learning-focused, support role with training provided.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Some hands-on experience (school, hobbies, or work) using tools or equipment
- Comfortable using basic computer programs for data entry
- Able to use heavy equipment
- Able to lift 50-75 lbs with team support and work on your feet throughout the shift
Nice to Have (but not required)
- Experience with shop tools (saws, drills, etc.)
- Forklift experience
- Exposure to mechanical or hydraulic equipment
- Wood or metal fabrication experience
Pay and Benefits
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the pay range for this position is:
$19.62 to $29.42 per hour, dependent upon experience.
