Job description

What you will do

Johnson Controls is seeking a Thermal Data Center Systems Engineer! This is an entry-level position within the Data Center Thermal Solutions Engineering team. You will provide foundational experience in thermal system design, analysis, and testing for data center cooling applications. You will support product development efforts across the thermal chain-from server-level heat capture through ambient heat rejection-while developing expertise in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and integrated system design. This position is based onsite, minimum 3 days per week, at our Advanced Technology and Innovation Center located in New Freedom, PA. Candidates must be commuting distance to the facility or able to relocate.

How you will do it

Assist with prototype development, testing, and validation of thermal components and subsystems
Participate in design reviews and contribute to thermal calculations and documentation
Learn and apply thermal modeling tools, CFD software, and test equipment under guidance
Develop understanding of the complete thermal chain from chip-level cooling to ambient heat rejection
Support cross-functional teams including controls, electrical, and mechanical engineering

What you will need
Required

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Heat transfer analysis (conduction, convection, two-phase)
Thermodynamic cycle analysis
Fluid mechanics and hydraulic system design
Thermal system component sizing and selection
CAD proficiency
Engineering calculations and documentation

Preferred
Entry level; internship or co-op experience preferred
