Job description

Microstation Technician

Barr is seeking a MicroStation technician to join our team. In this hybrid role, you will support the Engineering and Design group by providing computer-aided design and drafting expertise using MicroStation on a Windows platform.

The ideal candidate for this position is intrinsically motivated and emphasizes client service. They enjoy working independently and as part of a team, using their project communication expertise and technical ability for a variety of projects. They are flexible in working with their project teams and are willing to occasionally modify schedules to meet project deadlines and/or client needs. This person is also relationship-focused, as the role involves serving both internal and external clients.

Your impact – key responsibilities

  • CAD and design support: develop and manage project CAD file structure, perform 3D design and layout of mechanical systems, prepare construction drawings, and develop renderings. This role may support other disciplines, depending on project needs.
  • Standards compliance: help ensure drawings meet industry and project-specific standards.
  • Field presence: on-site as needed.
  • File management: work in platforms such as MicroStation, Bentley InRoads, and GEOPAK for version control and collaboration. Spreadsheet preparation, assistance with construction specifications, and assistance with report preparation.
  • Quality control: check drawings for accuracy, maintain consistency, and incorporate revisions. Facilitate collaboration between discipline CAD leads and help ensure model/drawing integration.

About the opportunity

  • Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Ann Arbor, Michigan, or Salt Lake City, Utah, offices.
  • Travel expectation: up to 10% domestic travel for local project site visits and training.

About you – required core competencies

  • Education: two-year technical certificate or experience and/or coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above.
  • Experience: 2+ years of design/CAD experience.
  • Willingness and ability to regularly travel.
  • Software: proficiency using current versions of MicroStation, Bentley MicroStation, and/or OpenPlant.
  • Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Compensation: anticipated range of $27.35–$35.15 hourly. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as non-exempt (hourly) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
