These positions typically involve troubleshooting, maintaining, and supporting network infrastructure, often requiring knowledge of networking protocols, hardware, and tools like Cisco or Juniper devices.

What does a typical day look like for someone in an Entry Level Computer Networking position?

In an Entry Level Computer Networking role, your day typically involves monitoring network performance, assisting with the setup and configuration of network equipment, and responding to support tickets or user reports regarding connectivity issues. You'll work closely with more experienced network engineers and IT staff, which provides opportunities for learning and mentorship. Troubleshooting hardware or software problems, applying upgrades or patches, and maintaining documentation are common tasks. The collaborative environment allows you to build foundational skills and prepare for more advanced networking roles as you gain experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Entry Level Computer Networking position, and why are they important?

To excel in Entry Level Computer Networking, a solid understanding of networking fundamentals, such as TCP/IP, subnetting, and basic troubleshooting, is essential, usually supported by a relevant degree or coursework. Hands-on familiarity with network devices like routers and switches, and foundational certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA, are often highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and a willingness to learn help distinguish candidates in this position. These attributes are vital for ensuring reliable network operations, efficient teamwork, and adaptability to evolving technologies.

What is an Entry Level Computer Networking job?

An entry-level computer networking job involves setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting network systems for businesses or organizations. Staying current with certifications and technical skills remains important for job security in this field.

Job description

This posting is for transitioning military members and qualifying military spouses seeking DOD SkillBridge training opportunities. If you aren't in that demographic, please apply to other openings. If you are seeking full time employment and not a SkillBridge opportunity, please apply directly to our other open roles.
Pike's SkillBridge program can provide training for those seeking roles as entry level lineworkers (Groundman, Equipment Operator, Truck Driver, Substation Ground Technician), engineering technicians (Power Engineering Technologist, GIS Technician, CAD Technician) and for members of our project management organization (Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, Work Management Technician). Please review the descriptions for the positions in parentheses to determine the best fit for your desired career path.
Pike and our affiliate organizations operate in several states with a heavy concentration in the Southeastern US. Locations include AZ, TX, OK, AR, LA, MS, AL, GA, SC, FL, NC, VA, KY, IN, and TN. Our engineering group includes operations in all the areas above and also includes OH, PA, NJ, MA, MI, CO.
When you apply, please include a cover letter and resume. The cover letter should include:
The type of role you are interested in training for selected from the above list or another role you have seen on our career site that you'd be interested in training for.
The location you are interested in training in. We do not offer remote training opportunities; all training is in office. You will need to be in a commutable distance from the training location. We prefer to train you in the location where you will work after the training is complete. We've found this offers the most successful outcomes.
Dates including your anticipated Skillbridge start date, terminal leave date, and EAS/ETS, if you are medically separating provide your anticipated dates and where you are in the process. If your installation or service branch has required application lead times, please provide those to ensure we are aware of the timeline to get your application processed and returned to you for processing by your leadership.
Please ensure your resume contains your military role(s), your additional duty assignments, and your pre-military employment or life experiences. If you share awards information, make sure you give a brief description of that the award or recognition was for.
