GENERAL DUTIES
IT Assistants perform entry-level professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically IT Assistants work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar based on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving minor technology problems, monitoring activities, and maintaining documentation. They have latitude for independent initiative and judgment, under supervision.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens , LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree programs and more than fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 24,000 students. More than one-third of LaGuardia's degree-seeking students are born outside the United States; they come from 136 countries and speak 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students.
Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (89 percent), 58 percent are women, 27 percent are over the age of 25. Forty-six percent of associate degree students are Hispanic. Upon graduation most students transfer to four-year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees. Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce. Under the supervision of the IT Associate, the Part-time Website/ Mobile Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the LaGuardia & Wagner Archives website and mobile applications to ensure they align with our brand, enhance user experience, and support our mission to collect, preserve, and make available primary materials documenting the social and political history of New York City. Reporting to the IT Associate, the IT Assistant will perform, but is not limited to, the following duties:
  • Develop, update and maintain the ASP.NET Archives website ensuring high performance and responsiveness;
  • Develop and customize WordPress themes, templates, and plugins using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
  • Troubleshoot and resolve website performance, security, and user experience issues;
  • Work on the development of mobile applications for IOS and Android that will communicate information from the archives to the application user;
  • Use mobile programming languages, including Objective-C, Java and VB.NET or C#, and web programming languages, including HTML, JavaScript, jQuery and web services to build mobile applications;
  • Understand object-oriented concepts and software development methods;
  • Maintain web services and databases that feed data to mobile apps using ASP.NET, PHP, and MS SQL Server.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Level 1
1. A High School diploma or its educational equivalent from an accredited institution and two (2) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
2. An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
3. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and six (6) months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
4. A Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Level 2
1. A High School diploma or its educational equivalent from an accredited institution and three (3) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
2. An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
3. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and eighteen (18) months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position.
4. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a computer related field and one (1) year of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position.
Level 3
1. A High School diploma or its educational equivalent from an accredited institution and five (5) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
2. An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
3. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years and six (6) months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
4. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a computer related field and three (3) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position.
English Language Proficiency: Demonstrated English language proficiency, including the ability to speak, read, write and understand English well enough to meet minimally acceptable performance standards set for job tasks.
CUNY considers full-time work to be at least 35 hours per week. Part-time experience of at least 20 hours per week may be prorated by half and credited instead of, but not in addition to, full-time experience during the same period (e.g., two month's related work experience at 20-34 hours per week equate to one month's full-time related work experience.) Part-time experience of fewer than 20 hours per week cannot receive any credit.
Note: A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York, may be required for certain positions. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. If appointed to a position requiring a Motor Vehicle Driver License, this license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in WordPress development, including theme and plugin customization.
  • Experience in front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as responsive design frameworks.
  • Experience in web design Adobe Dreamweaver, MS Visual Studio IDE and Xcode,and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Experience with developing mobile applications that interact with Web services and Web development tools including using Objective-C (iOS), Java (Android SDK), VB.NET or C# Web programming languages, ASP.Net, PHP, VB.Net, jQuery, JavaScript, HTML 5, Windows 11 and MAC OS, and PHP iOS SDK and/or Android SDK development experience required.
  • Experience writing intermediate to advanced SQL queries, as well as Trans-SQL stored procedures.
  • Candidate must be proactive, creative, with Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Candidate must have strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience with Google Analytics preferred.

COMPENSATION
New Hire: $30.99/hour
Incumbent: $34.99/hour
*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
