Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

This position provides ongoing support for all Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) software and related applications within BBAHC and Kanakanak Hospital. Works with Laboratory management to oversee quality assurance activities for the laboratories.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Meets the qualifications of testing personnel in a high complexity Laboratory, as defined in 493.1489 of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA).
  2. Bachelor's degree in a related clinical laboratory or computer field (e.g., Health Infmmation Management, Medical Laboratory Science, Computer Science).
  3. Two (2) years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining a hospital LIS, preferably Orchard Harvest/Outreach.
  4. Two (2) years of experience navigating and routinely interacting with a hospital information system, preferably Cerner.
  5. Strong computer skills, including knowledge of database management, data entry, and repo1i generation.
  6. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications or equivalent (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  7. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, billing, and coding.
  8. Understands and applies advanced quality and statistical concepts in laboratory science.
  9. Possesses analytical skills to identify interfacing issues and resolve reporting discrepancies.
  10. Possesses time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  11. Possesses organizational skills to manage multiple locations and testing systems.
  12. Works proactively and solves complex issues with minimal direction.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Navigates multiple software applications pertaining to, but not limited to, Laboratory testing information including the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  2. Builds reports and provides data for internal and external laboratory customers as needed.
  3. Attends and facilitates meetings related to LIS/EHR issues and improvements.
  4. Configures the LIS for new tests, makes revisions, and maintains the LIS data flow.
  5. Supports laboratory Quality Assurance efforts and procedures by assisting with and/or conducting laboratory investigations of discrepancies in reporting, specimen issues, Risk Management Entry (RME), etc.
  6. Trains LIS/middleware users and provides ongoing LIS/middleware education and support.
  7. Assists Lab, Point of Care, and IT with managing users on laboratory related platforms.


POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position, and the hours of work and days are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00

a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some weekends or evening hours may be necessary. Attendance in accordance with the BBAHC Attendance policy is a job requirement.
