Job description

NV5 is seeking a Geospatial Specialist (Production) with specific technical skills and expertise to provide support for the federal client using Esri GIS software suite. The tasks are centered on analysis, development and maintenance of spatial databases, development of applications using but not limited to the following programming languages: VB.net, C#, Javascript/HTML, ASP.net, MVC, ArcObjects/COM, Python. Understanding of frameworks such as Bootstrap, Breeze, JQuery and or Dojo. Other tasks include web-based services, map development and reporting. This includes integrating environmental models (e.g., DHI models, CALSIM, LTC) with GIS, developing links to external databases from the ArcGIS environment and designing user interfaces and helping maintain a sound GIS enterprise environment.  Some of the work will also involve the use of Remote Sensing technology. The work performed will require in-depth use of computer hardware and software architecture, including peripheral devices normally used by GIS such as network printers, scanners, and GPS units and other collection technologies. A thorough understanding of computer architecture and networks is desirable, as the work occasionally requires system management tasks to be performed such as GIS software upgrades, operating system maintenance including but not limited to RMPs, EISs, Feasibility Studies, and project plans).

Please note: This position is contingent upon the successful award of a government contract. Candidates may be considered and interviewed in advance; however, hiring and start dates are dependent upon contract award and approval to proceed.

Work Environment:

  • Location: Client site in Sacramento, CA.
  • Travel <10% of the time (some occasional on-site visits required).
  • Candidates must be eligible for federal security clearance (DOI) and proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • Coordinate with hardware or software vendors to ensure problem free hardware/software environment.
  • Implements quality control procedures.
  • Oversee all procedures performed by associate specialists and data technicians.
  • Monitor and ensure proper data backups.
  • Approve and release final product databases, maps and reports when appropriate and as delegated by the Service Center Manager.
  • Assist Service Center Manager and Assistant Manager in preparing and implementing user and project setup, accounting, and security.
  • Performs mapping and database management functions on a variety of Reclamation projects.
  • Create schemas and workflow procedures for the enterprise operation.
  • Manage various data collection technologies.
  • Must have the ability to work independently, as well as within an interdisciplinary GIS Team.

Requirements: 

  • BA/BS in the natural, engineering or computer sciences.
  • 3 years or more of Python and/or Modelbuilder.
  • Successful completion of any combination of the following Esri training courses within the last 2 years (may be substituted for some of the experience and/or time requirements):
    • Current ArcGIS Desktop or Pro.
    • Building Geodatabases or like coursework.
    • Cartographic Production.
    • ESRI 3D Creation/Analysis or Visualization coursework.
    • Modernizing your Field Workflows Using Fields for ArcGIS.
    • Demonstrated working knowledge of ArcGIS software suite (incl. Arc Pro & Spatial Analyst).
    • Demonstrated geography, mapping and cartography skills.
    • Experience with ArcGIS Server, and ArcSDE configuration is desired.
    • ArcGIS Online administration.

The pay range for this California position is $115,000 - $130,000 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via the NV5 careers site.
