SCADA Technician

JOB SUMMARY
This is position is responsible for assisting in programming process control equipment to control water distribution, maintain and measure gas pressures, and manage wastewater through the operation of motors, electronic valves, variable frequency drives (VFD), and remote terminal units (RTU). Assists in preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and predictive maintenance tasks.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Assists in maintaining and updating the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to insure uninterrupted, safe, reliable, and efficient operations within gas, water, and wastewater operations as well as Broadband power supply status.
• Documents and implements changes to the SCADA Human Machine Interface (HMI) system to support operational changes and engineering projects.
• Assists in the installation, programming, inspecting, calibrating, maintenance, operations, troubleshooting, repairing, and adjustments of various electric, electronic, and pneumatic devices, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems components.
• Monitors operations using troubleshooting computer software tools.
• Works closely with Operations personnel on a daily basis and responds to their gas, water, and wastewater needs.
• Assists in the investigation and evaluations of hardware, software, or service required to repair, replace, enhance, update, or improve the SCADA environment.
• Assists in resolving data communication problems during outages.
• Assists in updating software and software configurations as needed to maintain system integrity.
• Assists in writing technical documentation as needed to support job functions.
• Assists with scheduled compliance and/or maintenance checks and/or work orders on all equipment under his/her responsibility.
• Ensures all technical drawings and documentation are kept current and secure, both electronically and hard copy.
• Responds appropriately to abnormal operating conditions as identified through SCADA or calls regarding leaks/electrical issues in order to maintain a safe and reliable operating environment.
• Inspects, installs, or replaces lights and/or antennas on towers.
• Orders repair items, processes production requisitions.
• Performs preventative maintenance of lift station panels.
Other Functions
• Requires commitment during working and off hours due to the continuous nature of processes that are involved.
• Responds to emergency calls 24 hours per day when/if assigned standby.
• Assists other departments as requested or required.
• Performs other related duties as required/assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium: exerting up to fifty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to thirty pounds of force frequently, and/or up to ten pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following required physical abilities:

The work occurs 80% in the field and 20% in the office. Environments that will be encountered in the field consist of:
1. Waste water including feces, urine, grease, oil, and sludge.
2. Mercaptan and noxious odors are normal.
3. Insects including roaches, midges, flies, and worms.
4. Enclosed and confined spaces including manholes, and clear wells and lift stations.
