About the position
An entry-level survey estimator assists in calculating the costs and resources required for construction and civil engineering projects, such as commercial sites, roads, utilities, and bridges. Working under a senior estimator, they perform quantity takeoffs and help prepare bid proposals. While this position supports our Myrtle Beach office, candidates may work from any nearby Bateman office, including Myrtle Beach, Wilmington, Apex, or Charlotte.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform quantity surveys, or "takeoffs," by analyzing blueprints, maps, and other technical documents to compile estimates.
  • Assist in preparing and compiling data for bid proposals, and other project documentation.
  • Coordinate with engineers, architects, project managers, and suppliers to clarify project requirements.
  • Use industry-standard software, including estimating programs, spreadsheets (like Microsoft Excel) and Blue Beam.

Requirements:
  • Education in a technical field and experience reading plans with a strong mathematical and computer skills background through work experience or education.
  • Prior Surveying or Estimating experience is a plus.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical abilities are essential for performing accurate calculations.
  • Estimators must be precise, as small errors in calculations can significantly impact the project's overall cost.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet software is a must, and experience with specific estimating or project management software is valuable.
  • The role requires strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with team members and presenting estimates to stakeholders.
