Charles River Development (CRD) is the FinTech division of State Street. Together with State Street's middle- and back-office services, Charles River's cloud-based Front Office technology forms the foundation of the State Street Alpha® Platform, the first front-to-back solution in the industry.

CRD / Alpha® Platform Engineering organization is innovating and transforming the platform by moving away from monolithic software to using cloud-based technology that leverages Microsoft Azure, Kafka, Snowflake, etc.
As a part of our talent growth strategy, CRD Engineering is partnering with leading universities in North America to develop new talent. We are looking to hire recent university graduates and graduating seniors majoring in Computer Science or another technical field of study for the Full Stack, UX/UI, Quality and Performance Engineering roles. Junior engineers will receive coaching and guidance from senior engineers and leadership as they develop their skills and will become part of an agile organization and contribute to the development of the CRD/Alpha Platform.
Position Summary:
Be an integral part of an agile organization and contribute to the development of one or more CRD/Alpha Platform modules. Junior engineers will receive coaching and guidance from senior engineers and leadership as they develop their skills and contribute to the team.
We will match each candidate's existing knowledge and career interests to the company's priorities to help you build knowledge and practical hands-on experience in one or several of the areas below:
  • Full Stack Development
  • Front-end UI/UX development

  • Database Engineering

Responsibilities:
  • Work with senior engineers to design, build, test, and improve software features across the CRD/Alpha Platform
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts to create simple and sustainable software solutions for complex problems
  • Participate in the agile software development process including attending all daily standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives
  • Participate in on-the-job and formal trainings to develop your career

This role provides hands-on experience with modern technologies, including:
  • Learn modern front-end development practices using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Redux, and React Query.
  • Gain exposure to the Node.js ecosystem, including npm and/or Yarn.
  • Gain hands-on experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into software applications using APIs, prompt design, and enterprise knowledge retrieval patterns.
  • Develop practical experience with object-oriented programming using Java and/or C#.
  • Learn how to build event-driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka.
  • Gain exposure to Kubernetes, DevOps practices, and scalable application deployment.
  • Learn to develop cloud-native services on Microsoft Azure or AWS using Java and Spring.
  • Learn database technologies such as Snowflake, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
  • Develop an understanding of observability, operability, scalability, and modern software architecture principles.
  • Build business knowledge in areas such as portfolio management, trading, compliance, post-trade, IBOR, and wealth management.
  • Build knowledge of testing standards and frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, and Jasmine.

Required Qualifications
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • 0-2 years of professional software engineering experience, internship experience, or equivalent academic project experience.
  • Foundational programming experience in one or more languages such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, or C#.
  • Interest in building high-quality software in a collaborative, agile environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to React, Node.js, SQL, cloud platforms, DevOps, testing frameworks, or distributed systems.
  • Exposure to LLM concepts, prompt design, AI APIs, or AI-assisted development through coursework, internships, or project experience.
  • Interest in financial technology, portfolio management, trading, compliance, post-trade, IBOR, or wealth management.

Salary Range:
$52,000 - $91,000 Annual
