Job description

Austin Industries is one of the nation's largest, most diversified U.S.-based construction companies. Austin Bridge & Road is currently seeking an Entry Level / New Grad Engineer for a project in the Mesquite, Texas area. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of entry-level engineering and administrative duties. Assignments include the following departments: Operations, Estimating, Survey, Scheduling, and Engineering which will provide exposure to multiple components of the business. They will focus on the structural parts of the project.
Functional Areas of Responsibility:

  • Compliance with company policies and procedures

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Controls
  • Assist the General Controls Manager with the coordination of training activities and compliance activities for the Project Controls Department
  • Aid in the development and presentation of training materials
  • Aid in the update of TAW2 policies and procedures
  • Perform TAW2 compliance functions for policy compliance
  • Assist project teams with TAW2 policy compliance
  • May be assigned any of the construction administration duties as described for a Field Engineer

Scheduling
  • Assist in creating project and bid schedules
  • Update project schedules
  • Earned Value Metric updates

Surveying
  • Plan reading and survey calculations
  • Competency in use of company surveying equipment
  • Establishment of horizontal and vertical control

Engineering
  • Perform various tasks to support field operations
  • Duties include: earthwork calculations, shop drawing review, basic design of formwork and false work systems
  • Jobsite planning and layout for logistics and hoisting
  • CAD drafting
  • Perform engineering calculations and design

Estimating
  • Quantity surveys
  • Evaluation of subcontractor and vendor bids
  • Pricing of certain components of an estimate
  • Solicitation of subcontractor and vendor bid proposals
  • Site reviews

Technical
  • Read and interpret owner's drawings and specifications ensuring that ABR staff and subcontractors understand all the specific job requirements
  • Demonstrated collegiate level computer skills, mathematics, communication skills, and technical writing, with an aptitude for mastering the additional skills of the position requirements
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles of heavy civil highway construction

Other
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • New/recent college graduate (May 2026 - December 2026)
  • Able to prioritize tasks and projects effectively, with excellent time management, organization, and prioritization skills to accomplish desired results
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to multi-task and meet critical deadlines

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent preferred, but may be substituted by experience
  • 1 - 2 years of experience on heavy civil highway/bridge structures projects
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
