Position Summary:

The CNC WIRE-EDM Machinist sets up, programs, and operates CNC wire and EDM equipment to produce tooling and parts to print, while supporting inspection, tooling inventory, and overall tool room performance.

Requirements:

Essential Functions:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. First Key Responsibility: Machine setup, programming, and operation
  2. Analyze and interpret drawings, work instructions, and verbal direction for the tooling or die in question.
  3. Set up and operate CNC wire and/or EDM equipment, including selection of material, machine settings, lubricants/coolants, feed rates, speeds, and electrodes.
  4. Program CNC wire and EDM machines using Mastercam and machine conversational programming to produce parts and tooling to print.
  5. Second Key Responsibility: Inspection, tooling support, and team contribution
  6. Use precision measuring and gauging tools during setup and after production; determine specifications and standards for inspection and future repair work.
  7. Maintain electrode material, EDM wire, and the work area in a neat, orderly, and safe condition while observing all plant safety rules and safe operating procedures.
  8. Participate in tool design and process reviews, communicate issues affecting safety, quality, delivery, productivity, or tooling, and support overall tool room teamwork.

Skills and Abilities:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum one year of formal technical training as a machinist, including CNC WIRE training required. Completion of a formal four-year Tool & Die apprentice training program preferred.

Minimum two years of CNC WIRE/EDM programmer or machinist experience preferred. Previous deep drawn stamping experience preferred.

Proficient with Mastercam, CNC wire/EDM programming, blueprint reading, precision measuring tools, troubleshooting, and tool room equipment including lathes, drill presses, milling machines, and surface grinders.

Detail oriented, analytical, self-motivated, organized, flexible, and able to communicate effectively in a team environment while working with limited supervision.

Work Environment:

This position involves working in a manufacturing environment that is adjacent to the shop work environment. The employee must be aware of potential hazards, including, but not limited to, working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, operating vehicles, exposure to electrical current, high temperatures, and chemicals. It's important to maintain a high level of alertness and caution while performing tasks in this work environment.
