Position Overview

The CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Operator manages CNC equipment, including setup and monitoring machinery to produce composite parts.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare machine by reviewing work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Assemble cutting tools in holders, set cutter length, and position in machine spindles; select part holding fixtures and index part as needed to machine as required.
  • Oversee the machines while task is executed and make any necessary adjustments to produce desired result; inspect final parts and notify supervisor of any discrepancies.
  • Cleans machine, tooling, and parts; performing basic machine maintenance.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficient in using 3 and 5-axis CNC routing machines.
  • Capable of reading aerospace blueprints and specifications.
  • Able to work with/around fiberglass, resins, etc.
  • Self-motivated, quick learner and problem solver.
  • Possess a strong attention to detail.
  • Skilled in reading machinist scales and calipers.
  • Ability to comprehend information and ideas presented orally and written.
  • Competent in basic math and algebra; using all units of measure, whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; computing rate, ratio, and percent; drawing and interpreting bar graphs.

Education

  • Certificate from college or technical school preferred.

Experience

  • Level I
    • Entry Level - Junior Level
    • 3-6 months experience of CNC experience on 3 and 5 axis machines.
    • Related training/education will be considered.

Computer Skills

  • Level I
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • MRP/ERP information systems experience preferred.

Working Conditions

While performing typical duties of this job, production employees will experience the conditions noted below. PPE is provided to protect employees against physical harm or hazards in the workplace environment.

  • Exposure to loud sounds and distracting noise levels.
  • Exposure to hazardous equipment.
  • Exposure to contaminants.
  • Shared workspaces with other employees.
  • Requires handling objects of up to 50 lbs.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • Usually work indoors. These sites may not be temperature controlled.
  • Standing and/or walking for 8 to 12 or more hours per day (varies based on role, shift, and overtime).
