Job description

Machinist – Expert (Swing Shift)
Location: Santa Rosa, CA
Schedule: Swing Shift | 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Pay: $30 – $33 per hour (DOE)
Openings: 3 Positions Available

Position Overview
We are seeking three highly skilled Career Machinists to join a precision manufacturing team supporting advanced mechanical components and assemblies used in cutting-edge electronic and microwave applications.
This is not a production-only operator role. This position operates at the intersection of machining excellence and engineering collaboration. The ideal candidate takes ownership of process performance, quality, and continuous improvement while working closely with engineering teams to optimize manufacturability and production stability.

Key Responsibilities
Machining & Process Development
  • Develop, refine, and sustain precision machining processes for complex components
  • Independently set up and operate:
    • Swiss-style lathes
    • Single and multi-turret lathes
    • Mill/Turn centers
    • 3- to 5-axis CNC milling machines
    • Wire EDM equipment
  • Optimize tooling selection, cutting parameters, fixturing, and cycle times
  • Troubleshoot machining issues (surface finish, chatter, dimensional variation, tool wear, taper error, wire breaks, flushing issues)
Engineering Collaboration
  • Collaborate with engineering on Design for Manufacturability (DFM) improvements
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and production transitions
  • Provide input on fixture design, manufacturability, and process improvements
  • Interpret customer specifications and technical documentation
Quality & Inspection
  • Interpret and apply engineering drawings including GD&T
  • Perform first article inspections
  • Verify conformance using precision inspection tools:
    • Micrometers
    • Bore gauges
    • Indicators
    • Height gauges
    • CMM systems
    • Optical inspection systems
  • Document inspection results and maintain setup/process documentation
Equipment & Maintenance
  • Load programs, verify toolpaths, and adjust offsets
  • Utilize conversational machine controls when applicable
  • Perform routine maintenance including:
    • Wire threading systems
    • Filters
    • Dielectric fluid systems
  • Follow 5S and safety protocols
Required Qualifications
  • Career-level CNC machining experience in a high-precision manufacturing environment
  • Strong blueprint reading skills and ability to interpret GD&T
  • Independent machine setup and operation capability
  • Experience holding tight tolerances on complex components
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineering and cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication skills (read, write, speak English)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Highly Desired Experience
  • 3–5 axis CNC milling
  • Swiss-style lathes
  • Mill/Turn machine centers
  • Wire EDM (AGIE experience a plus)
  • CNC/CAM programming
  • CAD or solid modeling software
  • Tool grinding and custom tool development
  • Advanced metrology (CMM, optical systems)
  • Apprenticeship or technical certification in Machining or Manufacturing Technology
