Job Summary
Dominion Energy is seeking an Electrical Equipment Intern for Summer 2027 to join our Electric Transmission Field Operations team at our Lincoln Park 2 District office in Herndon, VA. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a field environment, working alongside experienced professionals who maintain and support high-voltage electrical equipment critical to grid reliability.
The intern will assist with technical tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of substation and power station equipment. You'll also be introduced to the Electrical Equipment Development Program, providing insight into future employment opportunities and development pathways within Dominion Energy.
Key Responsibilities:
Support substation and power station personnel with equipment installation and maintenance.
Assist with testing of substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, regulators, and CCVTs.
Participate in aerial lift and infrared testing.
Collect and analyze transformer and circuit breaker oil samples (DGA review).
Help with transformer processing and battery/charger installation and testing.
Contribute to procurement efforts for materials, spare parts, and specialized tools.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Strong interest in hands-on technical work over design-focused roles.
Problem-solving skills with mechanical and/or electrical equipment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Strong math, technical, and mechanical aptitude.
Effective communication, time management, and teamwork skills.
Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a field environment.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year technology degree program in :
Instrumentation Technology
Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology
Electrical Engineering Technology
Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field
Anticipated graduation date of Winter 2027 or later.
Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
