Job description

We are seeking an Intermediate Civil Engineer Energy โ€“ Remote. This remote position is based out of our Oak Ridge, TN office.

Your role
  • Responsible for designing, developing, testing, and overseeing the construction and maintenance of infrastructure projects.
  • Responsible of design and analysis of safety and nonโ€‘safety related structures for nuclear and commercial projects.
  • Interfaces with the other technical disciplines (mechanical, nuclear, operations and electrical engineering teams) for structural design and layouts.
  • Applies knowledge and experience, industry best practices, regulatory guidance, codes and standards, and good engineering judgment to ensure the design is compliant with International regulatory criteria and industry best practices.
  • Performs a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to document compliance with project and code requirements, which may include; foundation analyses, structural frame analyses and oneโ€‘off FEA model analyses.
  • Generates, and is conversant with layout plans, foundation details, steelwork details and architectural feature design. This includes the design of containment, reactor buildings and support systems with reinforced concrete, steel, and composite/advanced materials.
  • Assists in the preparation and approval of design documents and plant modifications, including coordination with designers in document development in accordance with approved procedures, processes and design requirements.
  • Assists in routine development, management and implementation of engineering analysis, activities and programs to identify and resolve routine equipment and system problems.
  • Familiar with national codes and standards appropriate to the CS&A Engineering discipline.
  • Ensures relevant design criteria, specifications, practices, procedures and codes and site design and safety and licensing basis are used in preparation of design media.
  • Works in multiโ€‘discipline teams on projectโ€‘based work and ensures integration of design across multiple disciplines.
  • Performs checking to ensure accuracy of design media in accordance with company policies and procedures and client expectations.
  • Works to assigned schedules ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of work and initiates corrective measures to overcome delays.
  • Recommends new equipment, concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify design, reduce costs, correct design flaws or to comply with changes in client requirements, codes or regulations.
  • Supports installation and testing of site systems and components.
  • Receives instruction, guidance and direction from more senior engineers and completes duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
About you
  • Bachelor's Degree required in Civil Engineering or related technical or engineering field.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
  • Experience in nuclear industry preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of FEA and other civil design software and Microsoft office.
  • Inโ€‘depth knowledge of strength of materials and structural mechanics.
  • Able to complete complex technical work with limited supervision.
  • Higherโ€‘level knowledge and application of skills of fundamental principles and concepts related to civil and structural design.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and design codes such as ASME, ACI, ASCE and AISC.
  • Excellent technical writing, interpersonal and effective communication skills.
  • Experience in conducting seismic and impactโ€‘based dynamic analyses.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical and geophysical engineering.
  • Experience in modular design development of SSCs.
  • Experience working with designers and manufacturers to develop models and drawings; knowledge of software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Tekla and Revit.
  • Prior nuclear industry experience including interactions with NRC or other regulatory authorities.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen in order to be considered.
