Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join a strong team of technical and business professionals in our Municipal engineering team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of innovative and diverse projects, including the design of civil and municipal engineering projects for highways and local roads, public utilities and public works, parks, trails, and related infrastructure projects. This entry level position involves working collaboratively with design teams in the development of construction plans and specifications; preparing reports, studies, and construction contract documents; computing quantities and preparing cost estimates; performing field observations and assisting in the coordination and management of construction activities. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to ensure project design and field objectives are met. This position will be directly supervised by a Licensed Engineer.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Support a team in the development of civil designs, preparation of plans and specifications, reports and other technical tasks on projects under the supervision of a Project Manager or Project Engineer.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Perform field work/construction observation under the supervision of a senior engineer/designer and/or construction manager as needed.
  • Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to request for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and written, with project team members, clients, and contractors.
  • Analyze proposed project solutions to ensure reliability, sustainability, resource efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Utilize three-dimensional technologies and modeling software in development, design and analysis of civil systems.
  • Compute and review cost estimates for project feasibility, budgeting, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Collect and analysis data and perform calculations that support civil system design decisions and development process.
  • Interpret and verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to take direction and prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and basic understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D as well as relevant software programs which may include Civil3D, GIS or other technical software.
  • Have the aptitude to develop the skills to effectively interact with project teams, clients and agencies.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and successful completion of the EIT exam or the ability to take the EIT exam within six months of starting.
  • Related Co-op/Internship experience preferred for new graduates; 1-2 years of related civil engineering experience for more experienced engineers.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
