Engineering Intern:
Yates Engineers provides engineering services for pulp and paper, steel manufacturing, chemical, and other heavy industrial industries. We believe that building relationships with our clients and understanding their specific needs and goals leads to the highest quality and most economical engineering solutions
Job Summary:
Gain hands-on experience in engineering design by developing concepts, estimates, and construction deliverables.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.
  • Assisting in developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks.
  • Assisting in producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs.
  • Assisting in producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with projects.
  • Assisting in producing designs with efficient use of construction materials with an overall emphasis on ease of construction and completed product meeting the expectations of the client.
  • Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
  • Assisting with other departmental support tasks.
  • Assisting with site surveys if required by projects.

Idea Background:
Education: Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master of Science Degree Program in Engineering or Engineering Tech at an accredited university is required. Accepted disciplines are: Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Industrial, or other general engineering majors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Begin developing virtual team skills and familiarity with interoffice execution.

Physical Requirements
  • The ability to conduct site inspections that may involve walking on uneven surfaces, navigating various terrains within the facility, utilizing stairs and ladders, and compliance with site PPE and safety procedures.
