Job Description
The System Offices is one of several system members within the Texas A&M University System representing one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, with a network of 12 universities, a comprehensive health science center, eight state agencies, Texas A&M - Fort Worth and the Texas A&M - RELLIS Campus. The Texas A&M University System mission is to provide education, conduct research, commercialize technology, offer training, and deliver services for the people of Texas and beyond.

Job Description Summary:
Provides entry-level technical support for the installation, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of enterprise network infrastructure serving the RELLIS Campus. Assists with the operation of wired and wireless network systems, telecommunications equipment, network cabling, and related infrastructure to ensure reliable connectivity for academic, research, administrative, and public safety operations. Works under general supervision and follows established procedures to support a secure, stable, and scalable network environment.
Responsibilities:
Network Operations (40%)
- Install, configure, and maintain network hardware including switches, wireless access points, and related infrastructure.
- Monitor network performance and respond to operational issues and service interruptions.
- Assist senior network engineers with network upgrades, deployments, and maintenance activities.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and issue resolution for wired and wireless connectivity problems.
Infrastructure Support (25%)
- Install and maintain network cabling, patch panels, fiber optic connections, and telecommunications equipment.
- Document network changes, cable inventories, and equipment installations.
- Support infrastructure projects across academic buildings, research facilities, and common-use areas of the RELLIS Campus.
Customer Support (20%)
- Respond to service requests and incident tickets.
- Assist faculty, staff, students, tenants, and partner agencies with network-related issues.
- Escalate complex problems to senior technical staff as appropriate.
Security and Compliance (10%)
- Follow established cybersecurity and network security standards.
- Assist with inventory management and lifecycle tracking of network equipment.
- Support compliance with Texas A&M University System policies, standards, and procedures.
Other Duties (5%)
- Participate in after-hours maintenance activities as required.
- Provide support during campus events and emergency operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Networking, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One-year technical experience managing network switches, routers, Wireless Access Points.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of network installation and troubleshooting principles.
- Knowledge of structured cabling standards and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Skill in customer service and problem resolution.
- Familiarity with Windows PCs, Linux PCs, MacBooks, iPads.
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts, switching, routing, wireless networking, and network cabling.
- Occasional work outside of normal business hours.
- Ability to lift/move equipment or supplies weighing up to 50lbs (with assistance).
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Cisco networking equipment.
- Experience supporting enterprise wireless environments.
- CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Technician (CCT), or similar certification.
- Experience in higher education, government, or large enterprise environments.
