Job description

Mechanics are responsible for performing preventative maintenance and general repairs on tractors and trailers to comply with company and DOT standards. Mechanics regard quality, safety, and equipment utilization as their primary focus. Mechanics are the diagnostic and service providers for drivers and carrier clients and ensure their needs are met including effective communication on all repairs. Mechanics are also responsible for supporting inventory control and providing accurate documentation. Mechanics are relied on daily to aide others in keeping our fleet of trucks and trailers readily available and in top condition.

Location: Baton Rouge, LA (Geismar)

Pay Range: $20.43-$30.76

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preventative Maintenance
  • Assist other technicians with tractor and trailer repairs.
  • DOT inspections
  • Brake inspections and repairs
  • Service Air systems and brakes
  • Entry level diagnostics and repairs related to any system of the assigned equipment; for example: suspension, drive train, HVAC, electrical, damage repair, valve repair, etc.
  • Ability to learn troubleshooting procedures and failure analysis of all components
  • Lift and install heavy components of CMVs such as starters, clutches, brake drums, etc. (pending equipment assignment)
  • Ensure that all parts and labor are accurately charged to the proper repair order
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment that complies with OSHA standards
  • Welding and light fabricating
  • Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration prior to being deemed as "roadworthy"
  • Practices safe work habits as outlined by the company and local authorities
  • To own the proper personal tools to complete all maintenance and repairs not supplied by the company.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Required to possess necessary tooling to perform assigned duties:
    • Sockets/wrenches 1.25" and lower
    • Air tools 1/2" drive and lower
    • Volt meter/test light
    • Acceptable tool chest to store personal tools

Skills Required:

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English is required.
  • Basic troubleshooting and repair skills such as electrical, suspension, tank repairs (trailer mechanic) or HVAC (tractor mechanic)
  • Ability to work any schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to utilizepersonalandlaptopcomputers
  • Ability tocommunicatesufficientlywithteammatesand leadership, respond to official questions, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records
  • Effective time management
  • Maintain sense of urgency; always demonstrating safe operating procedures
  • Professional and courteous interpersonal skills
  • Experience moving trailers in and out of shop a plus

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to frequently lift, push and/or pull weights more than 50 pounds, occasionally lift, push, and/or pull weights more than 100 pounds.
