About this Position

The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University seeks qualified applicants for a Laboratory Coordinator in the ENDEAVOR Laboratory. ENDEAVOR is the centerpiece of a paradigm shift underway at Oklahoma State University to expand instruction beyond the classroom and increase undergraduate laboratory and exploratory time for interdisciplinary, hands-on and industry-aligned learning. 

The ENDEAVOR Safety and Chemical Laboratory Coordinator manages the operation of chemical laboratories in ENDEAVOR and supports the safety and waste management program in ENDEAVOR and North Campus Laboratories. The position ensures that laboratories, makerspaces, and related facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. The Coordinator provides technical and operational support to faculty, instructors, students, and facility users. The position reports to the Director of ENDEAVOR regarding operations, safety, maintenance, inventory, and budgetary needs. The Coordinator serves as the primary safety authority within ENDEAVOR laboratories and related facilities.

Required Qualifications
  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Fours years related experience. 

Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

Have before hire and maintain after hire a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and prepare technical documentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physical Sciences, or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Science, or related field or professional experience.
  • Additional training in industrial safety, occupational health, or risk management.
  • Two or more years of experience managing academic or industrial laboratories.
  • Experience implementing safety programs aligned with EHS, NFPA, and EPA regulations.
  • Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on laboratory equipment.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

Technical Competencies

  • Ability to diagnose basic failures in analytical and process equipment.
  • Experience with instrumentation such as FTIR, GC, or similar systems.
  • Experience developing and updating regulatory compliant SOPs.
  • Strong knowledge of compressed gases, flammable liquids, and corrosive materials handling.
  • Familiarity with applicable OSHA standards, including 29 CFR 1910, Hazard Communication Standard, and Laboratory Standard 29 CFR 1910.1450.
  • Familiarity with applicable NFPA standards for chemical storage and compressed gases, including NFPA 30 and NFPA 45 as applicable.

Operational Competencies

  • Ability to prioritize critical laboratory tasks and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to implement preventive maintenance programs.
  • Ability to maintain continuous and clear communication with the Director of ENDEAVOR and Facilities Management to ensure safe and uninterrupted operations.

  • Clear and professional communication with faculty, students, OSU Environmental Health and Safety, and facilities personnel.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, undergraduate teaching assistants, graduate teaching assistants, graduate research assistants, faculty members, and general users.
