Job description

Location: Whiting, WI

Description:

Laborer- Whiting, WI

Starting Pay: $28.54/hour. Per CBA language, work performed on Sundays and contractual holidays is paid at double time. Once trained and qualified, Laborers also receive the pay rate of the job being performed.

Schedule: Shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime

Vacation: Two weeks after the first year of service

As a Laborer, you will play a vital role in supporting multiple departments within the mill. This hands-on position involves driving powered industrial vehicles, operating cranes, monitoring production equipment, and working alongside Operators on paper machine and converting assets. This is an entry-level opportunity with potential to grow into more advanced roles in paper manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Follow all safety procedures and promote a safe work environment
  • Communicate effectively in both team-based and self-directed settings
  • Assist in the paper-making process by performing tasks such as:
  • Preparing stock for use
  • Threading paper machines and winders
  • Operating overhead cranes
  • Transporting rolls using powered industrial vehicles
  • Loading and unloading paper in production areas
  • Moving finished product to the shipping department

 

Qualifications:

Required

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical capabilities test, pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and a background check.

Preferred

  • Manufacturing or other process related experience preferred but not required.

POSITION DEMANDS:

 

This position operates in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, dust, odors, and potential exposure to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards.

Employees must wear required PPE (e.g., safety shoes, glasses, hearing protection, gloves).

Physical demands include:

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing up to 108 lbs, pulling up to 60 lbs.
  • Working extended shifts (up to 16 hours)
  • Performing repetitive tasks and working in tight spaces
  • Good vision and focus required
  • PIV certification required
